BTW there is no visible signs of the smoke plumb this morning so it may well have been the fire up near Alpine. I sure hope the lack of seeing the plumb means they have it under control?tffnguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01830558433596399955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051650307488354823.post-83909921500260961622011-05-09T04:02:49.295-05:002011-05-09T04:02:49.295-05:00I dont think I can recall the last time there were...I dont think I can recall the last time there were so many wildfires in Texas.

We were so fortunate to get rain late this afternoon in Del Rio but right now if you go outside you would not even know it had done so.MsBelindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09035993834877022676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051650307488354823.post-53669892847150266272011-05-08T22:43:31.125-05:002011-05-08T22:43:31.125-05:00Could be, but it looks like it is east of Alpine a...Could be, but it looks like it is east of Alpine and closer than the last fire I saw up that way. I don't see any glow from here though so maybe its further away than it looks. The ridge between here and there would keep the fire from being visible from here though.tffnguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01830558433596399955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051650307488354823.post-20929753621516438452011-05-08T22:33:58.392-05:002011-05-08T22:33:58.392-05:00A large fire is just on the west side of Alpine. ...A large fire is just on the west side of Alpine. Now if you cut all of the stuff close to a house you can't burn it so that means it will be piled up somewhere for the wind to blow it. If a fire starts and the wind was blowing hard then more than likely it would be blowing burning tumble grass back to the house. I say tumble grass because when you uproot the native grass here its like a small tumble weed.

Sounds good on the M1. I did a little long distance shooting myself yesterday (maybe 100 yards), but without a scope I only got one shot in the target.tffnguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01830558433596399955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051650307488354823.post-60303909453819539162011-05-08T21:55:33.902-05:002011-05-08T21:55:33.902-05:00Wow, thats wild, and they are evacuating parts of ...Wow, thats wild, and they are evacuating parts of Alpine?

I would think that in times of drought like this, that the thing to do is cut down all the brush and grass near a house to create a 'fire break". Is that feasable in that region?

Tffnguy, I took the M1A out to the range yesterday and got the scope sighted in. I got about nine bullseye shots in a three inch group at 100 yards. The scopes not perfect, but for the type of rifle I have, it seems to be working out ok. (soon not a lone empty beer can will be safe in Terlingua:)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051650307488354823.post-8110739177206585942011-05-08T21:42:22.836-05:002011-05-08T21:42:22.836-05:00Don't think I want to give them more work so I...Don't think I want to give them more work so I'll pass on that.
