Heat in More ways than one.

First off the temp yesterday (here) was 109 degrees in the shade. It was already 106 at 12 noon today so I have a feeling the 109 will be beat today. Its supposed to be even hotter tomorrow.

And for the other heat? Well you might notice a new blog showing up in the list of blogs I follow. That blog is called Terlingua Heat and it is intended to help Terlingua locals keep up with what the local law enforcement is doing at any given time as far as check points for insurance / license / stickers and so on. Locals can post Anonymously if they want to, but the whole reason is to help alert locals when there are check points setup so others may avoid them or at least know in advance they are there. Personally I think that practice is illegal in it own right. Rumor has it that the TSA is behind all of this and the sheriff's department is bound to follow their orders. I have no way of verifying this though, but with recent problems from TSA I wouldn't be surprised if that is true.
The ones to watch (for now)
The blog is NOT to knock the law enforcement people its just to even the playing field!

  1. Are you saying that Terlingua residents have no insurance, driver licenses or Texas safety stickers on their cars? Check points like you suggested have saved many lives from drunk drivers, have taken insurance dodgers off the highways and have caught many people run'n the roads with out driver licenses. It may save your own life or that of an innocent driver.
    To warn these criminals is the same as helping to keep the streets unsafe and unlawful.

    Check points irritate the hell out of me. They just do. It's harassment IMO. Having them in Terlingua seems like a real waste of effort and $$$ since the community is so small.

    Damn it's getting hot. I need to order another Aluminet.

  5. As for as I am concerned Texas has been a police state as long as I can remember and that is back to 1955. Troopers make their own rules on the fly and our crooked small town sheriffs in Louisiana don't hold a candle to some of their counterparts in Texas. The border patrol has been grinding away at the constitution since it's beginning. I don't expect it to get better only worse since that is the way it goes historically.

  7. BB, being the good American that you think you are how about supporting a bill that will make all of Americans a lot safer?

    It would restrict senile old farts in very poor health from driving mega motor homes on highways or even streets. Matter of fact it would see to it that they are socked away in nursing homes where they belong so they can't harm anyone other than them selves by dieing while driving said mega motor home and wiping out innocent bystanders or drivers with small kids when they crash and burn. Better yet put them in straight jackets so they can't even harm themselves.

  10. DD, I'm a pretty old fart to, but I don't jack with BB or anyone else unless they jack with me first. The point here is that such rules could come about and be enforced just like the check points. Then who would be the criminal? BB would because he wouldn't stand for it.

  11. Billy Bob, obviously you do not understand the Constitution, like 80 percent or more of Americans. We have this thing called the 4th amendment:

    "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

    Not only that, but we have the 9th:

    "The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

    Our system is based on English common law. The right to travel is one of those rights not specifically enumerated in the Constitution. However, by this amendment, it is guaranteed. By the 4th, we are granted protection against unreasonable search and seizure. Checkpoints violate both.

    Your high horse has been shot, get off of it.

    Furthermore, I take great offense to you trying to call one of my good friends dumb.

    I gotta check it. last week in Austin, the Texas house voted to make it illegal for the TSA to search your person when getting on a plane. The vote also passed the Texas Senate and was shot down by LT. Gov David Dewhurst after the Federal Goverment threated Texas with a "Blockade" of ALL air traffic going to and out of Texas. David Dewhurst is ex-CIA and has ties to Karl Rove. Vote Dewhurst out next election.

    this is a 4th amendment, 9th amendment, and 10th amendment violation.

    Oh yeah. The Patriot Act extension was voted for on Thursday on the Senate floor. Obama had to sign it into existance on Thursday. OBama was in France, so he had it "autopenned" by a machine. One Senator (a tea partier) sent the white house a letter saying in Article 1 of the Constitution that the President has to "present" to sign the bill into law that was voted on in the Senate.
    Sounds like someone was doing there Constituional homework and may force a re-vote so technicaly the Patriot act is for the moment is "Null and Void"

  14. DD, far be it from me to try and strip your rights to think what you like. Now as far as BB goes I'm sure you've seen him post about a lot of things he has done that ticked off the law so he has no business calling other people criminals. His whole intent of his post was to piss me off and he has a well known reputation for trying to do that. I no longer post on his blog for that reason and I suggest he stop commenting on my blog because from here on out I'll delete ANY post he makes here.

    There is only one way to treat trouble makers and that is to give them some of their own medicine which I did and you took exception even though I wasn't addressing you. Believe me BB got the exact results he was shooting for and that was to cause trouble on my blog.

    And on another note maybe or maybe not he might have noticed his blog no longer appears on the list of blogs I follow. Reason? Because I got tired of him deleting the topics on his blog and then publishing them all over again after me and a few other bloggers posted new topics on their blogs. Why? So his blog would stay at the top of any blogs that have his in the list. I'd suggest that anyone else that has his blog listed in the blogs they follow to do the same if you're tired of BB's BS. Of course anyone who isn't is more then welcome to remove my bog from their list.

  15. Oh and BTW... I'm going to start checking all of the blogs listed in Blogs I follow and if Terlingua or Bust isn't in the list on those blogs then I'll be removing their blog from my list. Seems to be the only fair thing to do.

    My understanding is that the bill did NOT pass the Texas Senate. It was withdrawn form consideration when a third of the Senators withdrew their support after the TSA sent a letter stating that if the bill passed there would be no flights allowed from Texas. See:

  21. DD, I don't know why that is, but it is the same with mine. Some you just have to add yourself through the blogger dashboard. Under Design and then My Blog List You click on Edit under the My Blog List and then you click on ADD TO LIST and paste the link to the new blog in it and save it (If you want it displayed on the blogs you follow list.) I think that is also where you remove links you don't want in there.

  26. If u have no Insurance or Licenses you shouldn't be on the road!! There are to many drunks in this town wrecking into each other and don't get sent to Jail!! There are 14 and 15 yr old kids driving without a licenses and getting by with it.. People wake up in the real world you will be in Jail

  27. BK, I've got a license and insurance, but it is still unconstitutional for check points for such to be carried out. Parents that let their underage kids drive will likely pay the price IF the kids are caught driving on public roads and the same with drunks. The way things are going if TSA is behind all of this then you might as well get ready to drop your pants any time you see a check point. Same for your wife and kids.

  28. David, the ice guys finally came tonight, with block and bag. BK, I understand your ideas about drunk driving, but at the core, we should not need license and insurance to drive. Sure, you may crash into someone, but that is what civil courts are for. we have a right to travel, according to English common law and the 9th amendment. the founding fathers did not include a bill of rights originally, simply because it would limit our rights to those specifically enumerated. Unfortunately now, our government cannot even abide by the bill of rights. Checkpoints violate the US constitution, as well as the Texas constitution, and the Texas version protects our rights even more than the US version.

    yeah I think everyone is in agreement that checkpoints for anything is unconstintotinal. If a taillight is out or the persain is speeding then they can be pulled over. If there is 'probably cause" I.E. officer smells pot, then a "search" of the vehicle can be warrented. The person in the car can not searched unless that person is arrested. (David L. Secor's post above is right) If I was ever to go to jail for anything, it will be for refusing an un-constitutional search of my person without being arrested. (I.E. TSA airport screeners touching me.
    Back in the early 60's "Rosa Parks" refused to sit in the "back of the bus" and changed history. Its time we fight tyranny by "Peacefully" not complying to illegal searches. (This reminds me of Arlo Guthrie and the song 'Alice Restourant")
