One Man's View

A Country Founded by Geniuses but Run by Idiots

by Jeff Foxworthy:

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!

Amen (thank you Jeff)

VA Clinic Trip

Trip to the VA clinic was actually a lot quicker than I figured it would be because of several factors. I arrived at 8:10 and was out of there by about 9:20 even without an appointment.

(Score one for the VA)

I saw a nurse rather than a doctor, but supposedly she passed on the info to a doctor who forwarded info back to me by her. They don't know what it is, but think it is either an infection or clot and I'd have to have an ultrasound on it to find out which???

No blood work done so...

(Scratch one for the VA)

Problem with the ultrasound is that the VA hospital in Big Spring is already booked up for that for several weeks so I couldn't get that done for weeks and I'd have to figure out how to get all the way from Terlingua to Big Springs in several weeks and then get back home.

(300 miles one way and that ain't happening so...

(Scratch one for the VA)

She said they would try to have something scheduled in Alpine some quicker and I said the problem with that is getting to Alpine.

65 miles from my place so...

(Scratch one for the VA)

She then said Ok we'll try to get it scheduled in Fort Stockton instead.

120 miles from my place so...

(Scratch one for the VA)

They gave me a prescription for 3 days of stronger antibiotics than I had been taking. They want to try antibiotics before anything else so...

(Score one for the VA)???

The other 4 days worth are being send to my mailbox on the ranch road so
I'm going to have to figure out a way to get back there within 4 days.

(Scratch one for the VA)

Side effects of the antibiotics are as follows.

May cause swelling of the calves and feet.

(Scratch one for the VA)

Because my right calf and foot are already swelled near the point of skin splitting. Oh Joy.... There is also a chance of tendon rupture in any tendon of the body, but especially in the Achilles tendons.

Of course then there's the one about may cause breathing problems. Oh Swell on that because I have COPD and already have breathing problems and they know that so...

(Scratch one for the VA)

May cause Death is another one among many others. Perhaps I should just say to heck with the antibiotics and other trips to where ever and at least that would keep me from having to go through all the other side effects besides death.

Everyone at the clinic was friendly and easy to get along with. (So was I in return)

(Score one for the VA)

3 Scores for the VA

7 Scratches for the VA

During the Viet Nam war some were spit on by Hippies. I guess that wasn't too bad because now all of us are being Shit on by the VA.

Mov'in on!

This occurred back on the 17th, but since then there has been several rain storms of which I got a total of .9 inch. Did wonders for the catchment though. About 3 months ago I had 850 gallons in the tank and now I have 950 gallons in it. Not knowing how much water I'd used in those three months I'd say I had to have done good by having 950 now.

This started last week when I woke up one morning with the bottom of my foot feeling like I had a bad stone bruise, but there was no sign of a bruise or any insect bites. My leg started aching from my foot up my calf a few days after that, but still no outward sign of a problem. This morning I found the red on my foot and leg and I was noticing my thy was also aching. Further inspection shows that there is a red strip all the way up my leg nearing my crotch. I've also been feeling lousy for days to so I suppose its an infection of some kind.

The Jeep might make it to Alpine, but then the VA probably wouldn't pay the hospital bill and I know the Jeep wouldn't make it to Odessa where there's a decent VA clinic so I think I'm screwed.

Oasis in the Desert

I Ain't tell'in where this are.

Got a brief, but heavy rainfall yesterday evening and I got a half inch here. I think that equates to around 100 gallons of catchment. Not a lot, but every little bit helps!

Spectacular Light Show

There was a spectacular light show looking out the front door of the cabin last night. No rain around here, but I sat in the door watching the show and trying to catch pictures of it. I guess something like 40 or so tries not even one came out so no pictures to post.

I saw 5 fingers of lightning going up in to the atmosphere instead of to ground. Three were side by side and fairly short and then a couple of longer ones at different times. I've never seen that before.

Had the power steering pump go out yesterday morning when I went to the bank to do legion business. I took it over to Gills earlier this morning and he should have that fixed buy some time Monday. At least I can drive the falcon on the ranch roads and to the legion and back in the mean time. I still need to register it.

Done Deal

I'm now officially the commander of American Legion Post 653 (Terlingua). Unfortunately it will take months to get the mess straightened out.
