Scalped! / Update on Shower

Got tired of my unruly mop so yesterday afternoon I scalped myself. I'll sure have to remember to wear the hat Frann gave me for sure now though! (At least until the hair grows back out some.) I was also getting tired of the scraggly beard to so.... This morning I lost most of it.
Now anyone that watches this blog should know what I look like now in case they see me in person.  I was in the legion early yesterday at the beckoning of Nick because he was cooking Fajitas there and wanted me to eat. One younger guy was in there and introduced him self and that was before all the scalping. When I went back in there later yesterday the same guy was in there and introduced himself all over again thinking I was someone else. He did ask if he knew me though and I said yes from this morning. He said he thought I must have had a brother or something because I looked familiar. ;)

BTW if any of you ever wonder why my head is always tilted... Well about 20 something years ago I had surgery on my neck and the good surgeon fused part of my neck vertebra together. He screwed up and my head has been leaning every since.

And on another note I'd picked up some water hose quick connects at Harbor freight in Odessa and intended to add them to the pump so I could easily move the pump between the water tank and the shower (All depending on where I needed it at the time.) Unfortunately like a lot of crap gotten from HF they were very lousy quality and didn't work out at all because they leaked like a sieve. Now the pump is dedicated to the shower again because its a lot of work to move it back to the water tank now. At least this time I have it pumping good again so can have my nice warm showers in the afternoon or evening. I waited until 7:00 PM yesterday for a shower to give the water a little time to cool down some. It turned out to be just right. From now on though I'll make sure the shower tank is FULL before taking a shower though. I hate soap in my eyes when the water runs out unexpectedly!

BTW its already 98 degrees here now @ 12:00 PM and is supposed to top out at 103, but it was 105 again here yesterday and I figure it may top that today.

Update on Shower
I just refilled the shower tank to find that I used 7 gallons of water for the last shower. Evidently I fixed the pump setup too good because before I only used 3 1/2 to 4 gallons. 7 is way too much so it looks like I'm going to have to put a restrictor of some kind in the suction side to slow it down. I'm still planning to convert the old trailer I got to build a storage out of in to a shower / dressing room and possibly add a commode to try and get one of the septic systems put in. Just don't know when I'll get around to that? If I get that done then it will probably be added on to... to the east with a small cabin so the facilities will be connected to the cabin.  It will have a gravity feed shower with the gray water going to water plants and the commode will be piped to the septic system. That will mainly be used for guests only because the It'll Du does fine for me.

  2. Ah! Well thank ya Jen. (Even if you are fibbing.) ;) I'm the type that can take a lot of sun without burning once I get a good tan, but I figure I'll have to work up to it on my head or I would get a sun burn. I do have some good sun tan lotion though so may start putting some of that on for when I forget to put the hat on and go out side.

  3. I like the scruffy look but this sure looks cooler. I am going to take the dogs to the river this afternoon to cool down and set my lawn chair in the river with an umbrella and read a book.

  4. Well I'm sure the scruffy look will be back by winter and maybe sooner, but for now both are cooler.

I think I'll just hang out in front of the swampie and watch movies all afternoon. Its going to be too hot to do much outside. Besides I just feel lazy today and also have a lot of movies I haven't watched yet.

  5. Dang, you look so different you don't even look like your brother. The crooked neck just gives you character.

  8. DD, I don't look like you anymore. ;) I could do without the crooked neck because it gives me hell at times.

Jicky, I was definitely cool early this morning. (or at least my head was) Almost needed a toboggan because my head was so cool.

Thanks Jes. Hope you can get back down this way soon.

  10. Did the scalp thing once and determined I don't have the head for it. Looks comfy, though.
I was looking at your trike, and was wondering where the motor/ torque converter came from- that from a snowmobile or tractor or what? Back end looks vw or something. What an ob'ject d'art!

  11. markiesparkie, I got the motor from Northern Tools and the torque converter from gocartparts.com or something like that. Also got the differential from Northern Tool. No doubt it is a One Off build. ;)

Here's a couple of links to me riding it back in Plano. One is of me riding down US 75 and the other one of me riding in front of the house there. In the one on US 75 I had the camera bolted to the handlebars.

  14. ezrablu, people always tell me I look younger without a full beard.

BTW looks like another fire north of here and looks to be a lot closer than Alpine this time. I've just updated the blog with a picture I took a few minutes ago.

  15. you may just get a few good women with that awesome goatee man. It looks good.

  16. I'm not big on goatees Dave so I'll be working on a beard again. Maybe now that I have a decent trimmer I'll keep it trimmed though.

  17. Ttfnguy - it's easy to have a "now you've got hair, then now you don't" photo - but know it must've been quite a bit of work to get to that finely polished state :-) Looking good...

Clever though - you certainly will be cooler, providing you remember the suntan lotion / cream.

  18. I like your new look...even though there was nothing wrong with the old one.

  19. Dani, it isn't uncommon for me to buzz my head or for that matter shave my beard off. What is uncommon is to shave the mustache off. I can only remember doing that a couple of times in the last 45 years and that only lasted as long as it took to grow it back.

Thanks ~mc~ and MsB, does this mean I need to enter the Coolest Guy In America contest. ;)

Terry, the trike always did good at shows when I was living in Plano. It won first place twice and I only entered it twice. The worst it did was to beat out a fully restored 1947 Indian Chief (Which I felt bad about) I think it was just the novelty of it though that won and back then I hadn't had it finished long and it looked good. It usually drew a big crowd where ever I took it. Of course there were always those who just shook their heads in disgust though. The Terlingua sun, heat and dust has really done it in now.

  20. Are you still riding it? Would be cool to ride with you while we're down there, if you're up for hanging out with a bunch of slow women...one friend of mine is bringing her trike down, unless she chickens out by Wednesday (the fires have her freaked out)...I know for sure my friend Karen and I are still on for the trip. We rode to Sturgis and back from San Antonio a few years ago in 104 heat, so nothing is going to stop us, lol

  21. Terry, it isn't registered anymore so I just ride it on the ranch roads. Not to worry though it will outrun a really fast moped, but not fast women on slow bikes. (or is that slow women on fast bikes?) ;)
