Skids / Got Water???

Bought 3 old rails like you see along curves on highways yesterday. The guy I bought them from delivered them which is good because I wouldn't have had a way to get them here otherwise. They are 26 feet long each. I got 3 for $50 which I considered a very good price especially since they were delivered. Now you might ask "What in the heck did he want those for?" Well I've had in mind for a long time to build a skid building instead of building a permanent structure. Reason being they can tax you on permanent building and they can't on portable buildings. I plan to use these as skids for my cabin if and when I ever get around to building it. Being how they are 26 feet long I'm thinking maybe a 12x12 or 16x8 one. Haven't figured that out yet, but it looks like once again I'll be measuring and drawing lines in the sand to get an idea of how it would be living in either size. In other words draw a building plan on the ground to help me make up my mind what I want exactly. I'll post about that later though.

Now for the Got Water?
I highly recommend buying, begging, borrowing or renting a copy of this DVD. It will change your whole perspective on buying water in a bottle. What it boils down to is corporations are buying up rights to water just like the oil companies did oil rights years ago. Eventually the cost of water will skyrocket and flushing a toilet will cost you an arm and a leg. The government is right behind it and some politicians are actually investing in it and buying land where water can be had for selling.  You may think catchment would be the way to go if that happened, but more than likely that will be taxed to.

I can't stress enough at least renting this DVD and watching it!!!

  1. Wow I hope that works, I thought the same thing about portable buildings, sheds and yard barns but up here in Indiana they will tax them the same as anything else on the property. I don't know if they taxed the little shed I have down there yet, you might want to look into that a little deeper and let us know for sure.

  2. The war over water has already begun where I live in SE Oklahoma. I live on Choctaw land and places like Oklahoma City and Edmond are fighting over rights to buy the water that is Sardis Lake. It's in the courts right now and I really don't know the details but it is interesting. As our population grows, because people can't seem to understand when enough people is enough, we need more water. Who knows what will happen.

  7. Nice score on the rails. Can you bent the ends up like skis? That way you could really drag your house around to change the view out your front door.

Scary about over population and the coming water wars. It's been going on for years here in Dallas. Our city has bought up water rights as far away as Oklahoma, and we have a ring of reservoirs circling us up to one hundred miles out, which we draw from. Rural residents are rightly pissed about it, too.

  8. Bkid that's what I keep hearing down here. If I get taxed on it after I build it then I'll through some camouflage over it the next year and they won't even know its here. ;)

Towanda, I think skirmishes are popping up around Texas over water to. I know some countries are probably getting close to war over it. From what is on that DVD you can already tell where some of the $ money people are starting to reach for the next frontier as far as staying rich and getting more so that way. (Greedy bastards!)

CC, I'll check out the blog when I get the chance, Yes it is getting scary!

Frann, Denese, don't get your hopes up on the rails.

The DVD will be showing at the legion tomorrow afternoon.

Allen, I can add skid fronts to them.

People may put up with a lot of stuff. High gas prices, food prices and so on, but when you start screwing with someone's supply of water there will be a fight and if people will wake up it can be stopped before it reaches that point. A good start would be to deprive the water barons of the huge profit by everyone stopping buying the cheesy bottled water and investing in American made water filters and drinking tap water.

  12. You're not the first person to tell me that in America land is being purchased in order to sell the water below it. That's hectic!!

Wonder if they also own the air above it?

  14. Some States have had laws on the books for years making it illegal to capture rainwater falling on a roof. Luckily, Texas is not among them.

  15. OGE, I keep expecting that to happen here, but so far it hasn't. I wouldn't doubt but what they may eventually try to tax catchment water though.

  17. When that water war starts you guys are really going to be screwed because there already isn't any water down there.

  18. Bkid, the water war has been going on for years. Down here we're trying to adapt to drinking dirt. For now we have to have a few beers in between gulps of dirt.

  21. Ha ha, It's almost that time again, Dave S. better order plenty of Lone Star.

  22. I really like Lone Star except it gives me lots and lots of gas. I mean I could probably clear out the superdome with all extreme farting brought on by a big night of Lone Star beer.

When you drink lone star, you "Will" be a "lone" star the next day day if you catch my drift.
