FYI - Grub Shack.

Latest word that I've received is that Jerry and Eva were ready to open the Grub Shack back up after getting the septic system taken care of. Now the inspector has come up with other things to prevent them from opening. One I've heard is that he says they will have to get two high capacity (approved) water tanks and go ahead and tie the other camping trailer in to the septic system also. Who know what he'll come up with after that??? I'll try to update this as it goes on.

On another note Judy's Bad Rabbit restaurant at the ranch headquarters is closing again (If it hasn't already) That part doesn't effect me though because I've never eaten there and had no inclination to do so. Perhaps if Mama Crow had been able to take it over to start with that would have been a different story.

The next blog will likely be some major bitching about Classic Country Land since I got stuck paying the taxes twice (one payment he said would go toward the principal instead of being refunded) and I have not received any answers to questions I've ask.

As for clouds and fog we still have both. Solar is doing next to nothing. I think we've had one semi clear day in the last week and mostly cloudy is the prediction for the next 6 days.

  1. I just finished helping jerry with some of the drain issues and hope it'll suffice. could use a donation to get the new water tanks ( two 55 gallon barrels fda approved) and then he can call them up and see if he is in biz.

FYI CRIS ( used to work on the road crew ) is taking over the bad rabbit last time I heard.

  2. Dang David, where do you have to move to get away from bureaucracy? Enough is enough.

  3. Nick, I guess the info I got wasn't totally accurate. I heard they were going to have to get two of the large black water tanks. I sure hope they can get by with what you say they need. I also hadn't heard about anyone else taking over the Bad Rabbit. I still don't plan to try it out though.

DD, evidently nowhere in Texas and probably not anywhere in the US anymore! What a CROCK!

  4. Same man doing all the dirty deeds? lol, What a bummer!

  5. TnT, I suppose it is the same inspector, but can't say for sure. All I can say is Jerry needs a break!

  6. Damn, David. I hoped that the GS was up and going again. Hope the problems are sorted soon...

Can see on JW's webcam that you have the same weather we're having - but you're in winter and we're supposed to be in summer. Havoc on the solar panels!

  7. Too bad about the GS having so much red tape to go through. I've ate there and at Judy's and hope they are both able to get opened up soon. Nothin' like a good home cooked meal after a hard day of exploring, 4 wheeling, hiking or relaxing at the Ranch.

  8. Dani, I guess we'll see what happens next. You've got to hand it to Jerry and Eva for hanging in there, but I figure they have so much invested noow that they can't drop out.

Roughin, It WAS awful nice to be able to get grub out this way to without having to drive a full 22 or more miles round trip just to eat. I sure hope they can get past it and soon at that.

  9. Whoops that should have been so much invested NOW and a full 44 or more miles round trip.

  10. Dani, it is ,technically, still Autumn here in the northern hemisphere. Winter will begin on or about December 21.

David, that's a real bummer about all the red tape for the GS. Someone in county government must have a bug up their ass about it. I'm sure most of us would send a donation if you could supply a good address. I know that JW did awhile back, but, it's been so long ago that I've misplaced it.

Hope all is well with you, and that it clears up soon. It's been miserable the past couple of weeks for me, on my nightly run out I-20 from Dallas to Stanton (half way to El Paso).

  11. The Bullshit never ends. I think some very bad people are calling "Inspector Bob" (Bob, the nickname for inspectors I use) so the GS will never open.

Im sure some developers and big property owners are behind all this. It looks bad to have a redneck hangout where small property owners are bashing the ranch and coming up with plans to thwart the ranch at every move.

This reminds me of Star Wars.

    Grub Shack=Rebel Base

Terlingua Ranch=Evil Empire with Darth Vader and Mexican Midget Wrestlers in little white Storm Trooper outfits trying to raise fees, plow roads into ravines and chase off decent redneck residents.

In the end, its all about money!

  12. Allen, I don't know what address donations should be sent to. Maybe JW can tell you.

Stanton. Home of a few old soreheads and not much more than a wide spot in the road. They do have a pretty big flea market there though (about once per month I think).

cc, I hope they get past the BS and are allowed to open, but I guess time will tell.

  13. In case you guy's and gals haven't figured this out yet, Turdlingua and Turdlingua ranch are a dieing hell hole, they don't want you there and they don't want you to try to change anything that's already there. When I left in June I said I'd be back, now the only reason for me to come back is to get what I left there and to sell that 20 acres of dust.

  14. It is such a shame all the BS that Jerry and Eva have had to go through. My question is why don't they impose the same rules across the board? There are a lot of other eating places up there that have not been harassed in this manner. One that comes to mind is Kathy Kosmic Kowgirl...

  15. Well in that case Bkid, I still want that cart if its still there. I can't believe you said all of that about this wonderful place. ;)

MsB, I think a couple of restaurants in SB and maybe Terlingua have had their share or problems with the inspector man. From what I hear KKK has or is closing and she it trying to sell it.

  16. Dave, I didn't mean to jack your thread like that but I've really had it with the BS down there. I really loved it the first time I was there but after trying to live there for a couple of years with no work and no government check I just couldn't take it anymore, and I hope the fine folks following your blog don't think that Turdlingua is anything more than just a place to go and die.
If you want the go kart just go over and get it, I don't need it anymore, Greg.

  17. What a load of Kaka!
    Who is the inspector, Virgil?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bkid, When I get the chance I'll get the cart and when you come back to pickup your stuff come by my place and if I ain't broke at the time I'll buy you a few cold ones. Wish things had been more in your favor.

JP, yes that is a crock!

  19. The Bad Rabbit Cafe at Terlingua Ranch Lodge was closed today by the same inspector who is keeping the Grub Shack closed. It's not Virgil, who is the county's septic inspector, who is responsible for these closings.

  20. Looking forward to hearing more about Classic Country Land as I have looked at some of their land for sale in the area.

Where is Budweiserkid's land in relation to yours?

  21. The Bad Rabbit, Grub Shack and Kathy's KK have all been closed by the inspector or being harassed by the inspector?!? WTF is going on around here?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just Me, I keep getting different stories on why the Bad Rabbit was closing so I guess the old saying "You can't believe what you hear in Terlingua." Holds true in this case.

FD, BKid's land is a couple or three miles north of mine. Will be a while before I do the CCL thread to see if I ever get my questions answered. Maybe Scott is on vacation?

    Roughin, wish I knew!

  24. Dani, I guess we better move to Mars. I hear there's water there. ;)

  25. You better move somewhere with water, all the solar and wind in the world wont keep you alive without water.

  26. People will be robbing the water banks.

  27. Here you go. The good folks at MIT designed a solar cell that works better on cloudy days than on sunny ones. Unfortunately, you can't buy it yet. And, it will be more expensive when you can.

  28. Thanks for the link Matt, I have in the past slanted different panels in three different directions (some slightly to the southeast, some to the south and some to the southwest) instead of slanting them all to the south. I did that to make sure there was some decent charging going on all day. It worked fairly well, but I don't recall whether they helped like that on cloudy days or not? I might try it some day. I bookmarked the link.

  29. Interesting link, Matt. Thanks for posting it. Unfortunately, it's not a new cell design, just a new way of configuring panels. For those of us out here in West Texas with plenty of space, it does not make sense to use 9 times the panels (box, 4 sides each with a panel on the inside and outside plus one flat on the bottom) to accrue 3.8 times the power with the only benefit being taking up a smaller footprint. As long as the space is available, lay all 9 panels flat and get 9 times the power.

  30. Maybe "Inspector Bob" is keeping his job by making it look like he's doing it by picking on an easy target. All you people need to get a petition signed against him and go rock the rafters above his head :/

  31. ezrablu, I've been gone for a week and haven't heard anymore about it since I got back yesterday so Maybe they are good to go? Maybe not?
