Its a BOX!

Left to right Lee, Dave, Dennis and Andy showed up about 8:00 this morning to help raise the walls. Took all of about 45 minutes to do it. These guys really came through for me. Thanks a BUNCH!

As seen from 118.

More to come as I get more pictures.

  1. Isn't it nice and refreshing when people come through for you? Especially at 8am in the middle of the desert.

  2. Thanks Judy.

Yep Rubye Jack, and no one showed up on Terlingua time. ;)

  3. I haven't read your blog in quite a while (I haven't been reading anyone's blogs lately)...what are you doing with the box David? Is it storage, or a living area?

    Looks good so far..

  4. Small cabin Terry. Hopefully eventually with a bathroom. I haven't been reading or replying to any blogs lately besides mine. Just been too busy, but that will probably change before long.

  5. It is starting to look like more than a dance floor.

  6. Way to go! It looks great. I just realized that you have no window cut-outs. Are you going to put in some windows later?

  7. The second picture suggests that your RV is pretty large. How does it fit in the long term plan?

  8. DD, I guess we will see if it turns back in to a dance floor after all the high wind here. I'd figure gusts around 50 or so, but at least they are out of the north so the rocking and rolling in this trailer isn't too bad. The cabin or what part is there feels solid.

  9. Allen the answer is yes, but I plan to put in small 22 inch windows as I can afford them. They will fit between the studs, one on each side mainly for lighting and a cross ventilation. They shouldn't hurt the R rating near as bad as larger windows. A picture window in the front overlooking 9 points would be nice though.

rj, I think its about 37 feet and as far as plans go for it I guess it will be the guest house?

  10. Looks great David - very happy for you that your neighbours gave such a welcome hand :)

Why not place the RV in such a position so as to block the worst of the wind on the new structure?

  11. Actually Dani where its parked will just about do that. Seems like most of the really bad wind comes out of the north, northwest or west. The trailer will block the west and northwest wind. Of course if the trailer were to blow over like one did in my home town last week then that would cause a real problem because it could take out the cabin.

  12. YAY! You got walls! Will the old Dungeon door fit the door frame? Lookin' GOOD!

  13. That is the best blog post we've ever seen on any blog!!!!

A tasty adult beverage, sipped while sitting in the cabin, gazing at 9 points is in order.

    CONGRATS!!

    Da Foots!!

  14. Abby, that door is already in use in the tank, but I already have another door (Exterior metal) Bigfoot was going to bring me one in November, but I'll need one before that. I got the door and fridge for $60 and the door has never been used before.

BF, I've already spent some time in the heat of the day yesterday sitting on the south inside in the shade drinking a couple of beers. Next time I get some amber liquid I'll try it with that.

  17. Congrats! Here is a link to an article about a couple in Boulder, CO who built a 127 square foot home. They call it the Tiny Home Movement.

So, I guess you are just one sustainable son of a gun!

  18. TnT, The progress is slowing down fast now that I'm trying to get the roof joists on. They are all so warped that I may not be able to use some of them unless I can come up with a way to straighten them.

Anon,8'3 in the front and 8' in the back.

Matt M, thanks for the link. Wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't been signed up for email'ed comments. That did get me thinking about square feet so I calculated my inside finished cabin and it came out to 165 sq feet with the 6 inch walls.
