Broken Arm

Basically like my arm is broken. the bottom bone is broken and the top is not. (This is not my x-ray) Evidently in my tossing and turning last night it broke loose again and my arm and hand are swelling again. Don't know what I'm going to do now, but going back to the ER isn't one of them.

I'm also blowing the lining to my nose out through my left nostril, but that started a couple of weeks ago. The good doc that set my arm looked up both nostrils with his nifty little flashlight thingie after finishing with my arm and said the left one was redder than the right, but didn't prescribe anything or otherwise speculate on it. I think where the tissue is coming from is further up than he can see with that.

Its turned in to the rainy season in Terlingua according to my neighbor Robert and Dave the legion manager so since I can't be working on the cabin I guess that will go to pot because it isn't dried in.

The VA conveniently lost me out of their system and are dragging their feet about getting me back in it so I can't rely on the VA for medical help until that's done.

I'm starting to think a one way trip to the Devil's Playground might be the best thing.

  2. Jeezzus David.....hope you are wrong with the broke arm. Go to the emergency room for an xray to at least verify a break.
Don't know how far along you are with the cabin, but I'm sure with a few friends you can get some kind of covering over it. Even if it's only tarps propped up in the middle batten secured around the perimeter for the winds.

  3. Since you have already gone to the emergency room (last post's comments), I would strongly suggest you go again. The LAST thing you want is the arm setting wrong, which is very possible. If that happens they have to break it again to fix it or your stuck with a weird angle forever. Plus you need to ensure you don't get nerve damage. Do it...

  4. LakeConroePenny,TX, I do to, but it doesn't look like that will happen.

BB, I already been there and done that. I just didn't see the x-rays. The doctor told me how it was broke. Evidently he didn't fix it right the first time so I ain't going back again so they can charge me more!

  5. Gosh darn it, man, get that arm fixed. Isn't there another doc at that hospital? Or somewhere there?

  6. James Jackson knows someone nearby that is a doc that can help you...I'll email him, as he doesn't get online often.

  8. Well hell, there goes that free house now that you doctor bills.

  9. Ugh! So sorry to hear this, David :( Keep after the VA *every day* and get that arm fixed! Surely some of the neighbors will pitch and help get that cabin enclosed, or at least covered. Wish I was there to help out.

  10. Bkid, it wasn't free because I have a lot of $ tied up in it besides the fee stuff. I figure by the time I pay the medical bills nothing will be free about it.

Abby, at least the trip wasn't worthless because I got the ammo to go after the VA with. Of course they may stall it long enough that I won't need their services anymore though. Besides the arm I'm a lot more worried about the sinus problem. I think it may be cancer.

  11. David - No if, but or maybe - GO TO THE RUDDY DOCTOR1

A broken arm MUST be set correctly as it heals, and if there is something seriously wrong with the nose then that can also be sorted. Don't fear the worst, let the doctors establish the cause.

Just don't mess with our health - it is a priority.

And, finally, I know that you are a self-respecting adult, with pride. But allow your neighbours to assist you in covering your structure in order to protect it from the weather. Send out the S.O.S. Please!

  12. Hey Dave, Don't do anything stupid! You do have friends that care about you. I made that Triple chocolate cheesecake with you in mind.
Andy and I are out in Catarina, TX on an oil gate, so we can't come help you.
If the doctor set it wrong, then he won't charge you another office fee to fix it right. Threaten a lawsuit if he puts up a fuss about a fee and I bet it wont cost you a penny. Clear plastic sheeting stapled to the top of the walls and over the house will help with the water and weather. If you go that route, use a piece of thin wood to hold the plastic down and then staple over that. That way it wont tear out. Cover the floor with plastic.
If you need anything send me an email.
Keep your head up pilgrim. Semper Fi!

  13. David I am so sorry to hear about your broken arm and sinus problem.

However I have to agree with the majority here and urge you to go see the doctor. Believe me I understand about the high cost of medical services since I do not have insurance.

Your health should be your number one priority. Will the VA not reimburse you at a later date once they get you back in the system?

Please, please, please go see a doctor. Wish I were closer I would drive you there myself!

  14. I reserve the right to be stubborn.

  15. Ok, so ya want to be stubborn. So here what ya do. Cut the toe out of an old sock, preferably a clean one and pull it up over the break. That's to keep the duck tape from stick'n to your arm. Grab holt some straight sticks and duck tape 'em to your arm good'an tight. Not so tight that your fingers turn blue, but....well you know what I'm talk'n bout. Ya may need to run down to the American Legion for some pain meds....bout a case aughter do.
I ain't never had me a broke bone, but that what I would do if'n I did. If that didn't work, I would go to the freak'n doctor an' be good as new in no time flat.

  16. I dont understand why a cast wasnt put on it to start with. And he WILL charge you again, they all do. They dont have to guarantee their work!

    1. Don't think they give guarantees when they are "practicing".

  17. BB, did that, but used an old cotton pillowcase I took to de' legion along with a role of duct tape. Dave bound it with the duct tape and I was on my way. about 3 hours later I was at the ER in Odessa and the doc was saying you didn't drive 230 miles with a broken arm. I fooled him though and did. He fooled me though and sicked his two radiologists babes (older Babes) on me to see if they could make me pass out from pain. They lost and I yelled a lot.

BTW I'm Home now and still hurting like hell, but what the hell?

  18. I think a bottle of cheep whiskey will fix it.

  19. It's working wonders Complaints?. That and reworking the cast some where my hand isn't being choked so tight.

  20. BTW I didn't fall off the ladder it collapsed under me. It used to belong to Nick. Damn Nick Ladders!

  21. When you say you're home, do you mean home in Terlingua or your sisters home in Odessa?

I am glad you returned to the ER.

  22. Thank you for changing your mind. I'm proud of you :)

  23. And thanks Billy Bob - you're solution worked a treat :)

  24. I didn't change my mind. I didn't go back to the ER and I'm home in Terlingua. Since I modified the cast my arm and hand feel fine.

I need to go back to Alpine to get 4 more sheets of OSB for the roof before it can be finished by anyone, but the jeep isn't running right and I'm afraid to drive it as is. I bought new plugs in Odessa hoping that is the problem, but Ring didn't have time to change them and I can't even get the hood open to try and do it myself.

    ReplyDelete
  25. David, head up to our place and grab the 3-4 sheets of 1/2"(?) OSB that is laying there by the back steps with some cinderblocks on them to hold them down. Maybe a little sun-fuzzed but were new a few months ago.

    DO IT...!!!!

They are too fuzzed for me to use inside the house anyway. I would have just chopped them up for shelves or something and now I have WAY too many shelving boards from my scavenging here.

    DO IT...!!!

    DO IT...!!!

okay....now I can stop hollering and demanding.

( I think I sent you the gate code #)

Thanks and glad you are doing better.

    Take care Pod'nah.
