Dennis' Going Away Party

The Legion held a going away party for a good patron and friend Dennis last night. It turned out to be a hell of a party and there was more food than could be eaten. Lee provided plenty of BBQ and a number of other people brought food. Entertainment was also provided by others. There was also more tomahawk and knife throwing thanks to Dennis.  There was desert there to die for and I was so stuffed by the time I finished eating that I had to switch from beer to whiskey because there just wasn't room for any more beer!

BTW Dennis is what us locals call Snow Birds because he and the others winter down here and they are smart enough to get the hell out of Dodge / Terlingua before the heat of the summer hits. We (Us locals) always hate to see out good friends and Snow Birds leave. Things just aren't the same until they return around Fall. Hopefully over time most of them will move here full time.

All photos by David Secor. I forgot my camera.

  1. Damn, I missed another party. We were going to come down last week for our spring break but Greg jr. got his braces put on so we didn't leave.

  5. Looks like another fun time down there that I missed!
It's tough to see friends leave, but it's tough to spend the summer in Terlingua, also.

  6. Allen, it would be nice to be able to vacate this place in the summer, but for most of the locals that isn't an option. Still we all have to be somewhere.

  8. I really liked your tomahawk Dave, can I put in an order for 1? Just need a bit shorter handle on her.
The Triple chocolate Grand Marnier Cheesecake was devine.

  9. Miss Kathy, I got that one from Dennis and I doubt he has another one like it. They sell some almost like it online with the pike and a really tough composite handle that's just about the right length. (About the length of his other ones.)

    Oh YES on the cake!

  10. Looks like it was a great party!

Yeah, you really have to have a lot of guts to be able to survive summers in Terlingua.

When the time comes I will probably also be a Snow Bird.

  16. David, I think often about working alone, 60 miles from a hospital on my place and what a horror scenario could unfold if I ran a saw thru my leg, etc etc....(Eureka.!!maybe that's why I never do much work when I'm down there?)

    naaa..I think I'm just a lazy A##..!!

I really hate to hear about your injury, wish I was nearby to help out any way I could.
