He's got Legs.

Several weeks ago I got bit by something again that evidently my body doesn't like. The bite mark all but disappeared like happened the last time I wound up in the hospital because of the blood infection. There is still a large knot around the bite mark though. This is the inside of my opposite leg and basically the same thing is going on. Very painful now and the reddening is slowly moving up toward my groin. Looks like more hospital time for me. :(

  1. Don't let that go too long and get the care you need.

  2. Does not look good. Get your rear end up there (and don't walk out without a referral to a specialist).

    1. Had to put it off a day, but I'm still going. I'll check out the new VA clinic and if they don't do what they are supposed to then I have a civilian doctor that will.

  3. My wife thinks you are having an allergic reaction to a spider bite and should be taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) every eight hours. Allergic reactions can get serious if it effects your breathing.

    1. Well the bites and I say bites happeded several weeks ago if not a month or better. when I got to looking at the photo I remembered several bites from probably the same critter. looks like 5 in a circle looking at the picture. You would think if it was an allergic reaction all of this would have happened back then. I have taken a Benadryl and it doesn't seem to have helped at all.

  4. You need to get to that new VA Clinic or local physician to have your symptoms diagnosed. It's better to be safe than sorry, and hopefully peace of mind after you been successfully diagnosed. I looked on WebMD at bug bites (spiders, etc) and "rashes on leg" which suggested one cause could be Dengue Fever. The article indicated Dengue fever is a painful, debilitating mosquito-borne disease caused by any one of four closely related dengue viruses. These viruses are related to the viruses that cause West Nile infection and yellow fever. It also said the risk is increasing for people living along the Texas-Mexico border and in other parts of the southern United States. Not sure if this matches your symptoms, but I wanted to pass it along to you. Here's the link: Denque Fever. I hope you get a quick and accurate diagnoses and have a quick recovery! Keep us posted.

    1. Rick, I've known about dengue fever for years, but don't really have any of the symptoms. I'm betting it is a skin infection because I got stung on the arm by a bee and had the same symptoms on my arm. I've never been allergic to bee stings before so don't know what caused it that time. If it is a skin infection like that then good antibiotics by mouth should cure it? It did in the case of the bee sting. I REALLY hope for no more hospital! I guess we will see what the VA says and go from there.

  6. Well the new clinic is nice, but it is not what they were saying it was going to be to start with. It was built on to the hospital because originally it was supposed to share resources and staff between both, but I guess that has changed now. They are still way under staffed and don't use the hospital for help at all or that was the impression I got. The amazing part was being the first day they were supposed to be open there wasn't hardly anyone in the waiting room and they did get to me within I guess 30 minutes. At least this time the nurse actually looked at my leg and actually got a doctor in there shortly after that and he looked at it to. (neither of them did that last year. Matter of fact the doctor never even saw me! He just gave the nurse a prescription to give to me and she told me to go home and take them. After seeing a civilian doctor I wound up spending three days in the hospital and would have been deal shortly after that if I hadn't.) The doctor prescribed the same antibiotics that they did last year and I sure hope they do the trick because I DON'T want to spend any hospital time again. They don't have a pharmacy there either so medications still have to come from Big Spring. They could have given me a voucher to take to Target like they did the first time and I could have just gone there and picked them up but "Oh No" I'm having to wait until tomorrow to get them. Despite me telling them it was very painful they didn't prescribe any pain pills either. Personally I think they are just on their toes right now because of all the bad publicity and I suspect after that blows over it will go back to the same old crap! They did mention doing blood work, but also mentioned a trip to Big Springs and then they dropped that anyway. Just as well because I wouldn't have gone.

    1. I guess the good news is you were able to see a doctor this time and get some antibiotics. Was the doctor able to diagnose the bite based on the symptoms? I'm lost for words on your experience at the new VA clinic and about the sharing of resources with the hospital. Guess you have to roll with the punches. You would think since it's a new clinic they would have their act together, but it's just the opposite. Hopefully you won't be visiting the hospital anytime soon and I hope you have a quick recovery.

  7. No diagnosis made on what the bites were from or for that matter not even interested in one. My leg is getting worse and the pain is to. I sure hope the antibiotics get here today like they are supposed to and do the job they are supposed to do. (Quickly)

  11. I am so sorry you are having to have to go through this again! Darn even with all the bad press and this being a new clinic you would think they would get their act together and mail the darn antibiotics!!

Please keep us posted if you can. May you soon be on your way to a full recovery.

    2. MsB, I guess the only thing anyone could tell me about the pain is to Grin and Bear it. :(

  14. Looks like it's raining over there. Hope you have your rainwater system working...

  15. jr, if it rained there as much as it rained here (doubtful) then it was probably well over an inch. I notices on the radar that it was raining there at the same time it was storming here. That was about 3:00 AM to when ever...
