RAIN!!! / 500 gallons of catchment!

Should have gotten about 800 gallons of catchment if the catchment system wasn't still leaking. Unfortunately the roof is still leaking to and I got a few gallons in here to. I'm up to 1100 gallons in the 1550 gallon catchment tank and its supposed to rain through Friday. Now if I don't have some other disaster that should hold me a long time. I spent the night without power because its been so dark the solar just isn't cutting it. All the parishables out of the fridge are now in an ice chest.

  1. That is a lot of catchment water but I bet it get used up way to fast and it can be a long time between rains. When they do come, it is all at once. Too bad the rains can't be spread out evenly throughout the year.

    1. DD, it would have taken me 4 trips hauling water with my small tank and trailer just to get that much water so I'm sure not going to gripe. I'll take it when I can get it. Yes it would be nice if the rain was spread out over the year. Getting this much rain now though should help out next spring and maybe some of the desert plants will bloom for a change?

  3. Good old FREE water Dani. Not having to haul it or pay someone to haul it makes it even better. :)

  4. Oh BTW The Foots are down here, but they may have a problem getting out now and no doubt many people will be in that boat to. It started while I was at the legion yesterday afternoon and people were already wondering where they were going to spend the night because they knew they wouldn't be able to get home.

  5. Hey friend, it was good to see you and talk. I wished I could have stayed longer.
I got Tim's contact information and will email it to you as soon as I can.
Congratulations on the rain. After being there for five days I can now see the importance of it. That place is a hard place to live.

  8. So glad you and all the folks in the desert got some needed rain but best of all that you were able to capture a lot of it, even with the leak.

I was wondering how your solar was doing with all the clouds, hope that clears up soon for you.

It was nice visiting with you. Take care.

    1. Good to visit with you to MsB. Finally got some sun this afternoon and it was enough to top off the batteries. I'll plug up the fridge in the morning and can stop buying so much ice.

  9. Sorry for our lack of chances to hang out, too much rain and mud kept us mudded in. 3 days of soaking rain...never seen that happen down there, but we don't live there (yet).

Bad case of cabin fever. Solitaire, staring out the windows, napping all the time, huddled around the propane heater, watching battery bank volts drop lower and lower, listening to Freaking NPR Marfa radio (only station you can pick up) was all driving us nuts..!!

Seeya in a few weeks when we head back down.

  15. Thanks Andy V. I received the VA card in the mail yesterday which is supposed to let me use any hospital or I guess Doctor I want to (or will allow it) That was after them repeatedly telling me NO! Not sure what changed their minds other than persistence?
