More bad news from Terlingua Ranch.

From the Brewster County Sheriff's Blotter on FB. Alex was a good guy and we will miss him.

  4. Also sounds like one should keep a good self defense weapon and phone - readily accessible - when living on the remote Terlingua Ranch. Help is normally far away anytime something bad - like a crime or an accident occurs.

    1. Ronald, anyone who isn't well armed and knows how to use them probably shouldn't be living down here.

    2. ----------Tffnguy -- You are certainly correct on that! It wasn't until I started spending about a month per year at the Terlingua Ranch - that I realized some pistol training and a concealed carry permit would be better life insurance! And we also had a land line telephone installed at our Mahan Hunt Camp!

    1. That's a good photo of him, and it is sad to hear!
He was just telling me that he had quit drinking and smoking, and was next going to give up his chewing tobacco if he could! I don't doubt that it was an accident rather than foul play, we all new Alex too well to think that someone would want or need to hurt him. You're right tffnguy, he will be missed, I know Cathy will take it hard when I tell her, she liked him. Thanks for keeping us informed.

    1. Several people are planning a memorial get together at his place Friday at 6:00 PM. Supposed to be a pot luck and they are supplying a jug of Bombay Sapphire Gin to toast to him since that was his favorite. They are asking that people also bring a cool rock to since he was in to that.

    4. :-) You're tougher than that my friend,...a few poles driven in and a tarp would sure make things all lot more bareable, and make for a good party. I know that Juan,Mario, and above all, Wes, would be there to help you with anything you asked, no matter what!....YOU are still the real Commander and I know that everyone would follow your lead!!! I wish I was there to help out amigo. Good luck, and have fun!

    1. Not so far rj. We're still waiting to hear the results of the autopsy and I hear the case is still under investigation. I'll do another blog entry when I find out more. (Including a bunch of pictures of his memorial at the burned out trailer.)
