Come & Gone

First picture is Frann and Robert (Bob) lining up for the grub. Second picture Left to Right is RN, Abby,  Jim, Fran, Caren (Littlefoot) Bill (Bigfoot), Julianne (Just Me), Dave (Legion Bar manager), Bob (My neighbor) James (the resident surveyor), and Misty (My niece)

I think everyone had a good time and there was plenty of grub to go around. A few of  us headed for the legion around noon and then several more showed back up that evening for a party on the other side of the trailer where we once again had shade. Had another guest show up as well (Lee) for that party. Julianne brought the groceries in from Midland when she came down and did most of the cooking other than the eggs. Frann brought some cooked Chilies and warned that they were HOT! She was right, but they were good.  I think Misty helped some and did most of the roundup of trash and dishes after the feed. I cooked the eggs (two 10 inch skillet fulls). We'll have to do this again some times!

Bigfoot dropped me off a solar shower bag so that gives me another option for showers. However, the last shower wasn't too bad coming directly from the water tank. I may try connecting the solar shower to the input line to get the water temp back up to a comfortable level again. When the weather cools off more that will probably be a must.

  2. My thoughts exactly, I doubt your spot ever had so many visitors at once. Glad it was a nice day for it. Have you tried the awning on a semi non windy day? I think we had it out once, it seemed pretty steady then.

  3. Allen, hope to do that again some time.

Dale, I'd never put that awning out down here even without wind. The dust devils are real unpredictable as well as the wind and I just don't want to take a chance.

  9. DD, you may be right, but more than likely I'm just learning how. ;)

Nick, wish you, MsB, The Desert Rose and a few more could have been here. BTW I've found you a two wheel donkey cart. If you're interested let me know and I'll send you some pictures.

RN, good thing you brought those other two tires because when I pulled the one large one on the front it was about ready to blow to! Had to replace all 4 of the tires on it.

  10. Sounds like a great time was had by all. I'll be in Terlingua full time come the new year.

You sure are having a trial by tire, David. Brings to mind a guy out in Mojave who travels with extra tires on the roof of his car when he goes to town.

  12. the desert rose, sure wouldn't hurt to have 4 spare tires down here! Do you already have the land or are you coming to buy. If you do what area is it in?

Nick, I'll stop by there on the way back from SB tomorrow and hopefully remember to take the camera. Don't know what the asking price is other than he would sell it. He just got a mini mule that he wants to build a small cart for it to pull. The one for sale is larger, but needs some work to get it up to speed. It pretty well has the basics for you to customize to your taste.

  13. David, my 20 acres is west of Solitario G-4/5, but isn't part of Terlingua Ranch. It's accessible from a jeep trail (that is caliche and needs clearing in a few points where the scrub is trying to take over. I have new machetes!) a couple of miles west of the Ghost Town on 170.

  14. the desert rose, sounds like you and Frann will be near neighbors.

  15. I thought we would be when she said she could walk to the Ghost Town, David. There are some pretty high hills between us, though as I'm west of the Long Draw so definitely a short drive and not a long walk between us.

  16. David & Julianne put on a good brunch! That Terlingua honey was great, but I wish I had gotten a 2nd biscuit to try the prickly pear fruit jelly. And thanks everyone for putting up with my dog pack, even though they weren't quite as obnoxious as I thought they would be :)

  17. the desert rose, at least you'll are close in one way.

Abby, the biscuits and jelly can be arranged. There are both still here. You'll can come by and I'll get some out of the freezer and warm them up or may take you some over to your place tomorrow.

  18. Yes, at least the drive will be a short one. I was looking at maps and didn't see any roads/trails from Long Draw through the mountains to any of the Ranch roads, but you never know. I'll jusst have to go exploring when I get there permanently.

  19. the desert rose, I'd heard of some property in that area that was land locked. Hope yours isn't it and that the jeep trail you're talking about isn't on private property? Might be worth checking in to. Since it isn't on the ranch then it isn't likely any ranch roads will be going to it.
