I'll Third that!

Bummer about the Starlight Theatre closing. I seldome go there or eat there, but I sure hate to see it close. It is an ICON for this area to be sure. Who knows... Maybe the Terlingua Ghost Town is really going to become a ghost town? I heard it through the grapevine that the radio station has already shut down. Actually found out about the Starlight closing through DD's Blog because I hadn't checked John's yet. Supposedly Saturday is the last day. (Both blogs are listed to the right on this blog.)

Not much else to write about from here other than I'm still battling computers, but out of two defuncted computers I now have one that will play DVDs, but only during the day or on windy nights. (Unless I want to take a chance on being out of power during the night some time. Ah Heck! I'll try it the next calm night and see how it goes. I may have to run the charger the next morning for the first time in I don't know when.
The picture is just for the heck of it. ;)

  1. I assume your notebook has only a CD-ROM drive? If it has a slot, and it is size and pin-compatible, I can let you borrow the DVD drive from my laptop. I very rarely use it, as my laptop is on its last leg. I believe the drive still works great though.

  2. What is the brand name and model of your laptop? I'll check to see if it will work...

  3. Yep Dave. Just got a CD in here. I don't think yours would work. This one doesn't appear to have a slot. Its a Dell Latitude D610

  4. Great photo! That's the view me and Abby wanted to see while there. One day!

  5. Jim, I had another picture that was much better, but its lost somewhere in the desktop computer. It was earlier with the moon looking like it was sitting on top of 9 Points and just below a cloud. I'll find it one of these days I guess?

  6. I think it may work, looking at the specs. We can probably replace the CD drive with the DVD. What are you up to Friday afternoon?

  7. Probably nothing Friday Dave, but I'd need to get the hard drive installed first and get XP working. I thought you'll were going to Vanhorn this weekend?

  8. I guess I will never make it to the Starlight before it closes. That is a real shame as it was a real tourist attraction.

Sorry to hear about your computer problems but hopefully you will get that resolved shortly.

That is a beautiful picture of the moon. Was just outside a couple of minutes ago looking at the moon and wondering how much more beautiful it probably looked down your way.

  9. I have no idea when I am going to Van Horn. I also have a working 5 1/4 DVD drive if that will work with your external DVD deal.

  10. MsB, I never tried their 2 for 1 burger night and their tacos either. Guess I just missed out. At least the place will probably still be there, but it won't be the same without it being open.

Dave, I have a 5 1/4 DVD burner/player, but it won't work with the USB DVD player case. It might work with the USB hard drive case though and I may try that once I get the HD installed in this computer where I don't need that anymore. Of course it will be a totally jury rigged deal if it does work though. I could still keep the backups on other HDs and just switch them as I need them.

Bummer about the Starlight Theatre. It has the potential to be profitable I think if the right person took it over.

About your computer problems, "I'll Piss on a sparkplug if it'll help" (thats a quote from an Air Force General in the movie "Wargames". When it comes to technology, thats the way I feel. (I miss typewriters, manual gas pumps, and carburators)

  12. I wonder if anyone has thought of opening the starlight just for the weekends or tourist season?

the economy sure has hit the country hard this year

  13. David, I was wondering how the planets lining up with the moon looks out there. I haven't gotten a chance to see here, been cloudy every time I think about it. I heard on the news that they will not line up like this again for 10-15 years. The picture I saw on the news looked cool.

  14. Captain, I guess its yet to be seen whether someone takes it over or not. Sure would be a shame if that didn't happen. Don't y'a be pissing on any sparkplugs on my account! That sounds down right painful! ;)

Nick, too bad Mama Crow isn't still in the market for a place like that. I bet she could make it fly! I'd even be spending more time there.

Dale, I haven't been doing much star gazing. It just isn't near as much fun doing it without others to enjoy it with you. I may check it out tonight though.

  15. The Starlight will be opened up again. It was to expensive. I had a sandwich and a beer and it was 17 dollars! They will need to be able to get the locals..mostly broke.. to keep something going as the tourists are few and far between.
