Starting Young!

I get the Tiny House news letter and noticed where one of the links was to a blog where a 12 year old young lady is building her own tiny house on wheels. I checked out her blog http://tinymaison.blogspot.com/ (La Petite Maison) and found some interesting ideas and reading. You might want to check it out. I've subscribed to it and plan to follow her progress. The bird house she is building is really something else. I suspect her tiny house on wheels will be to when finished. I'll be adding her blog to the blogs I follow list to make it easy to keep up with.

AROUND HERE

As for around here I've finished up all of the insulating in the cabin that I had insulation for this month and will buy two more bags next trip to Alpine and it looks like I can finish the insulating with two more bags instead of three like I had thought I'd need. I'm in the process of wiring it now, but still need to find a small breaker box for  the power coming in from the inverter. Once I get the rest of the insulation in I should be able to at least sleep in there to save on propane cost because this trailer with the leaky windows and lack of good insulation sucks propane at a high rate.

Cool! Was 61 degrees in here this morning after having the oven set at 150 with the oven door closed. I figured that would keep the temp up, but didn't. I slid out from under the covers real early, opened the oven door and then crawled back under the cover until it warmed back up. Have I ever said I HATE Winter and cold weather? Guess I need something to gripe about all the time because I don't like the high heat around here in the summer either. Hopefully by next summer the cabin will be rigged to handle the heat of the summer and cold of the winter.

  1. LOL you and RMan - both of you appear to have an oven heat fetish. When we were in the caravan he used to put the propane oven on and "bask" in front of it. My side of the caravan was freezing thanks to the vent behind the non-working fridge, but his side - nice and toasty LOL

  2. Btw, thnks for the link - looks interesting, and nothing like encouraging the young - they are the future :)

  3. Dani, its either the oven here or no heat at all. The solar/inverter won't run the RV heater (Electric) and the Harbor Freight sun flower type heater I had broke. Just as well because it got way to hot in here too fast and had to be manually turned on and off. It also sucked propane too fast also.

One of my granddaughters is pretty good at making small bird houses and other projects, but the rest are too preoccupied with other personal stuff. Good to see a young lady with a plan.

  4. The La Petite blog is quite impressive for a 12-year old. I wonder if most youngsters today have blogs or if they just stay on Facebook and Twitter.
The oven works for me also. I live in an apartment where they think a fan blowing cool air is heat. :)

  5. Rubye Jack, I know the kids and grandkids all do FB, at least one does that and twitter, but no blogs that I know of. Seems like blogs don't cut it with them.

Yes the heater is pretty cool. I'm shying away from any heaters with a vented out stack though. They work, but for them to vent out carbon monoxide they have to draw in outside air which will be cold air. Also as much as 30% of the hear goes out the stack and does little to help heat. Now... If the combustion air (as its called) is taken from the outside without drawing it through the space being heated it helps a lot. Still you have a lot of the usable heat going out through the stack and not helping with the heating. I plan to just use an unvented wall heater which is much more efficient. (100% of the heat goes to heating.)

  6. It seems too early for these cold temperatures this year. Maybe it will warm up for the winter. . . . And maybe not.

  8. For my dining/kitchen area i use 1 or 2 burners on my gas stove. Doesn't take but a few minutes to heat the whole area.

  9. TnT, I don't have a heater outside of a turkey cooker for the cabin so I'll have to come up with something for that even though it should be pretty easy to heat. The turkey cooker will probably do me until I get a wall heater.
