Pappy and the Fire Pit

I was getting overwhelmed by trash so decided this morning that I WAS going to build a fire pit to deal with it. I decided to take it another step over the way other people build them and add quarter inch mesh in the center with the same for a top. Might be good because after I got the fire going good and deposed of most of my trash the wind started getting up. I guess it will be smoldering all day and I need to go to Study Butte to get gas for the charger and generator, Ice and call a special lady (granddaughter) who is having her baby today. Don't want to drown out whats left of the fire, but I may have to.

By the way... If you'll didn't know it was my great great er... many great grand pappy Fred tffnguy that invented the fire pit. He was being chased by a saber tooth tiger when he picked up a rock and threw it knocking the big cat senseless. It was then that he started thinking about other ways to use rocks and when he skinned the cat to cook it he thought I'll just pile up a bunch of rocks in a circle and build a fire in it. To this day that's where the idea of the fire pit came from. You believe me don't you?

  2. Just joined yer blog and I love what you're doing. I love hearing about other peoples off grid experiences. Im tryin' to do the same. Before I got this lil parcel of land, I contacted several agents on West Texas land. It is cheap and beautiful there. I still have the desire to live there and still lookin' at land prices, etc. online of course. Yer doin great. Keep it up. ~jen

  3. Mama Crow, CAN'T be a great grand child! I'm much to young for that. Of course if you believed the part about great..... Pappy then you probably believe that to. ;)

Jen, I highly recommend checking the land out in person before buying it or you may not even be able to get to it. (without a helicopter.) Don't ask how I know. :( Welcome to the blog.

  4. Well, see, that's what I had thought ... dang, he's much too young for to have a granddaughter with child ... but, for all my supposed intelligence, I am gullible.

    *sigh*

  6. Another newcomer to your blog. Glad to see what you're doing there. I already have my piece of ground and have been living on it for a long time. Not off grid, but I spend a lot of time in the summer living in camps. Some of the things you are doing might come in handy there.

Welcome to the blog Bob Mc. I'm just coming up with stuff as I go and some of it works out and some doesn't. When you don't have a choice you do what you got to do.

  11. Mama Crow, I'd always wanted to buy land and build and in later life I thought it would be cool to build off grid. Problem is the decision sort of got made for me earlier than I was ready for it. What the heck though. I'm no spring ruster so maybe it was now or never. All I can do is the best I can and make the best of it.

OGT, I thought you had left the country.
