Desert Mummies / Snake proofing

Been working on the first part of snake proofing the It'll Du. I don't want any more supprises of snakes crawling through there while I'm in there. (Poisonous or not!) At least when I get through it will be easy enough to see if anything is in there when I open the flap. I imagine I'll use the old setup I made to keep snakes from crawling in the dungeon door when I had the door opened. That should pretty well take care of any potential problems there. I guess I'll start working on lighting for it after I get finished with the snake proofing. Before long I plan to resurrect the shower so I don't have to go south every time I need a shower. Lots and lots of projects to do around here and I'm having a hard time finishing one before starting another one. I guess I need to FOCUS! ;)

As for the Mummies? Well I picked up a bag full of cans to take to the legion for recycle and under it was what was in the picture below. Two mummified rats. I guess the rat poison under the dungeon really did do some good. Odd that the rats were together. Husband and wife?

  1. I seem to wander from one project to the next myself...it will all get done someday.

  4. For your sake I am glad you are snake proofing, we would not want anything to happen to you. Have you considered that helicopter insurance to get you life flighted to the nearest hospital? It is well worth the $50.00 investment.

Those mummified rats look like birds. A good rat or snake is a dead one in my book :D

  5. Could have been Nick.

MsB, I've been trying to find out how to sign up for the helicopter deal, but no one here seems to know how to do it. I was told there used to be forms at the legion, but evidently not any more. When I get the falcon fixed where I'm not afraid to take it south I'll see what I can find out down there.

  7. Nick, I will talk to him about it next time I see him at the GS, but I doubt that he would have any of the forms to fill out. The GS is closed today though and its windy as hell anyway so I won't be riding the trike and still need to try and get the falcon where I'm not afraid to drive it because of the fuel delivery problem. Maybe one of these days I'll get that problem solved???

  10. Better desert mummies than live rodents. Will snakes eat poison? We used to just shoot them, but there are too many down Terlingua way.

  11. I dont even wanna think about snake season. I hope I never get one inside the lil house.

One good thing about my job is that it offers annual Halo Flight coverage(helicopter medical services/transport) in the event of an emergency that you need to be transported. This comes in very handy being that I am about 12 miles from town and the nearest town after that is 22 miles or so. Not sure if Halo Flight services yer area but I do remember reading one of John's posts(Field Lab) about being subscribed to an emergency helicopter service. May wanna ask him.

  12. D Rose, I doubt snakes will eat poison, but if they eat rodents that have been poisoned and haven't died yet then I understand it will also kill the snake. I have to agree with you about the only good rodents are dead ones. Same for snakes (If they are rattlers) I'll try to leave the non poisonous ones alone because they actually do good and for a couple or three they eat rattlers.

Jen, one thing is for certain and that is that the snakes will be out like it or not. :(

When I see John I plan to ask him about the medivack or what ever its called. I'll probably need to go south for an application though.
