Pepper / Pad / Sunset

Had another visit from Pepper Sunday. The new family had her at the legion (untied) and she slipped away to pay me a visit. As usual I walked out the door and there she was. She was panting hard and looked thirsty so I filled up the dogie water bowl. Also had some brisket that I was about to chunk because of the age so she got to eat well while she was here. After a short visit I decided to take her down to the legion not knowing she came from there and when I headed out to the falcon / trike she stood in front of the car door expecting me to open it and let her in. I fooled her and took the trike instead. As always before she loved to chase along with me when I was riding the trike. When we got to the legion there were 3 of the 10 remaining new pups the new owner's Dane had left and I think Pepper isn't getting as much attention as she used to so more than likely that was the reason for her to visit me. She normally won't do that when the girls are where she is and they were all three there.

Got the foundation poured for the new fridge hut, but unfortunately the concrete I had didn't go near as far as I thought it would. Looks like I'll have to pickup a couple of bags when I go south tomorrow to finish it off. I decided to put it on the west side of the trailer near the door so as not to have to go far to get to the contents of the fridge. The trailer will shade the hut until probably around 11:00 AM and hopefully I'll have it and the fridge well enough insulated to allow it to work good in the afternoons.

Another sunset from last night. It was pretty cloudy most of the day yesterday and we had a chance of rain, but unfortunately didn't get so much as a sprinkle. I don't think it is in the forecast again at least for the next 5 days.

  1. Pepper's looking fit, doesn't miss many meals it seems. The foundation for the fridge looks good, it sounds like you have a good plan on its installation. Were you able to get the falcon's fuel problems worked out?

  2. Dale, yeah she gets plenty to eat and I think she is back to 100% after the accident screwed up her hind leg. She didn't have any trouble at all keeping up with me on the trike. No visible sign of a limp anymore either.

No on getting the fuel pump problem fixed. Main problem is getting it to prime when I need to drive it. IF it will prime then it usually does ok, but some times it just won't prime when I get ready to go. (either from here or somewhere else) A good smack on the pump with the butt of a screwdriver has helped a couple of times. ;)

  3. A dog NEVER forgets it's favourite master, and though she may have driven you mad, she probably thought she was helping you, in whatever way she could. Bless her - she does love ya :-)

Quick work on the fridge slab, but there again, t'is a very important addition to your site ;-)

  4. Isn't mixing cement by hand fun!! Pepper looks kinda scary..pits and chows have always made me wary.

  5. Dani, never any doubt on the love part both between me and her, but the price was too high to pay. The family that took her keep trying to give me a new pup (Great Dane / Blue Tick Hound mix) and less than a month old. That's all I need... A horse to feed that likes to chew my stuff up. ;)

Frann, Oh Yes! I just love it. NOT! What's the plans for tomorrow? The wind is too high here for a shower right now so I guess I'll take one down south in the morning.

  6. Frann,

You must not have spent any time with her, she's about the friendliest dog I've ever been around. We told David when we brought her out to him, we didn't know which one was more hard headed. Although we do know, lol. I never saw pit/chow mix in her, can't see past the lab part. She doesn't look any different to me than my full blooded lab. So I really think yall can put that pit/chow mix stuff to bed.

  7. I see where you got a propane frig, I have had several RV rigs with ones like that, they work well. My question is why are you putting it on the ground. that means every time you need something from way in the back you have to get down on your knee's. Build a stand for it and put it up where you can get to it, then put the propane bottle in the lower part of the stand.
    Just a thought.

  8. RH, you're the second person to mention that. (First on the blog) The box won't actually be sitting on the slab. That is mainly an anchor for the hut it will be in. I don't plan to put it up very high though because with the high wind down here at times it would probably blow that whole hut over even with the concrete slab. I didn't bother to put anchor bolts in the ground like I did with the It'll Du and shower. I may frame it up where it will be about a foot off of the ground, but that won't give room for the propane bottle under it. I plan to keep that outside for easy change out.

  9. outside is hot for a fridge isnt it?

  10. Nick, no hotter than the inside of an un-air conditioned trailer. Or in a trailer or MH where the afternoon sun shines on the side the fridge is on. I moved the fridge around to the west side of the trailer on a temporary base (Pallet) earlier today because I plan to get perishables tomorrow on the trip to Alpine. I've already added an inch of foam insulation to both sides and the top and will add at least another inch of it (May add a total of 3 inches.) I'll do the bottom and door the same way when I get the hut built. I plan to have the hut well ventilated and shield the fridge from the sun so it should work a lot better than being in an RV. Unfortunately I can't add more insulation to the back, but on the sides, top and bottom that will add another R-13 of insulation value at 2 inches or R-21 to the sides, top and bottom if I use 3 inches. I'd expect it should be pretty darned efficient when I finish.

  11. We got a rescue dog a month ago, it is now about three months. Its part lab, pyrennes and chow. The ears up high like that are lab, we know ours is a pyrennes because it has double dew claws, and the head has the wrinkled from of a chow. Its like yours, all black, but ours has white socks and a white belly from the pryennes part again.

Your dog/ex, whichever, looks in great shape.

  12. Larry, she is well cared for by the new owners. Evidently she's more Lab than anything because she loves to play in water.
