Catchment / Legion

What a rain! A whooping .20th inche. I got my first catchment since the gutter was put up and catchment was installed, but would guess it yielded less than  20 gallons I'll take it though.

As far as the legion goes I can already see that it is going to be a pain in the ass to run. Too many people have too many ideas of which way  it should go.

  1. It sounds like your catchment system does a great job, that many gallons from hardly any rain. Do you throw away the firs run-off that would clean your roof or do you save it all and let the dust and dirt settle to the bottom?

  2. DD, the port that the catchment goes in to has a very fine mesh filter in it mainly to keep bugs out, but it should trap most of the dirt to. I can remove that and clean it occasionally. What ever the amount I got went in to the tank. Of course any bird droppings on the roof will be washed in to the tank as liquid. I don't like that idea, but you use bleach every so often to sterilize the water. I don't drink it though. I buy drinking water separate.

  3. Running the amount of rain we got through a rain catchment calculator it came out to right at 9 gallons collected. Not great, but that will be a couple of free showers.

  4. Congratulations on your first catchment! Eight or nine gallons is better than nothing and hopefully there will be more rain in the future.

  6. MsB, Don't look like we will be getting any more real soon. There was a 40% chance for Saturday I think, but that's down to 0 and the same for the next 10 days. Maybe that will change though???

Dani, the calculator says for a 1 inch rain I should get 182 gallons. Not great, but nothing to turn my nose up over.

  7. Good thing you have an open mind and are receptive to new ideas at the Legion. Leadership is not easy.
