Progress but not much.

Made a little progress on the shower, but not enough. Maybe tomorrow? Its been pretty hot this afternoon and I just couldn't make myself do much more. I'm about out of stuff to use with the build, but plan to cover the interior with a tarp to keep the water off the wood and I might be far enough along tomorrow to take a shower in it. Sure could use one! Not sure what I'll do for a door yet, but it will have a window at the top to give enough light in there to shower by. I still need to dig the trench further out so it will drain where I want it to, but that will come later. I need to get several pieces of corrugated tin for the roof and gutter because I plan to do rain catchment off of the It'll Du complex. Contrary to the way this looks in the pictures the buildings are not leaning. ;)

  1. Indeed, not leaning, you can see how the horizon is also leaning.

Things are coming along nicely. It'll be good to have a working shower.

  2. pipsqeek, it really will be nice. I got spoiled by even only being able to take a shower when the wind was calm. It will be a lot nicer to be able to take one about any day. Who knows... Maybe eventually lights and a small water heater where I could even take one at night or in the winter with a heater in there.

  3. Wow, looks like a great shower. I seems big enough to envite the whole neighborhood, and they could all fit in there, right (grin).

Of course you and puppy are the only ones in the neighborhood.

  4. Dizzy-Dick, it was just easier to make it the same size as the main building. ;) Besides I may have to get Pepper in there every now and then to.

  5. Not near as close to done as I'd like. I'm going to be going back to work on it shortly and see how much I can get done.

This afternoon I'll go over to Bill & Caren's and see if I can figure out what's wrong with his enduro. Hopefully I can get it running or maybe tell him what part he will need to get one.

BTW when is it you plan to come out this way?

  7. frann, Yes on the pallets. A few we picked up at McCoy's were 8 feet long so that came out real good. I'll need to do a little trimming on the top of the west side to get the same pitch as on the It'll Du so I can take the rain catchment off of that side when I get the tin to roof the whole thing. Tarps over the outside and inside will be next and eventually OSB board on the outside over the tarps. (both buildings.) Outside of the container Dale brought me a bunch of wire ties, a large assortment of different sized and type tape, Velcro and other goodies. I did use a few of the long wire ties to hold the pallets in place until I could get them screwed to the studs. I'm sure a lot of it will be used to do the finish work.

  8. David, Have you tried one of those Inverters from harbor freight and tool before? Im curious as I just bought a 2000/5000 watt for 164 chicago electric from them. the smaller one( 1500 watt) were only 29 dollars less.

  9. Need a daily update on Pepper. Nothing is more loyal than a dog and will be your best companion you can ever have...better than most humans! I don't trust anyone who doesn't like a pooch. Enjoying your blog daily.

  10. OGT, I have a 1000 watt that denniswalker sent me so don't need anything bigger. I plan to save that for the big gun when I need it and only use a small inverter for my usual small load. RN bought one of the 1500/1000 inverters from HF and it seems to do pretty good once I came up with heavy enough leads to it.

  11. Andy V, she is doing ok, but under foot a lot now and as my grand niece calls it always wanting to give me hugs. My main concern is her wanting to get out in the bushes because I'm afraid she is going to get nailed by a rattler. When I was pulling the extension cord while working on the shower she was real interested in it and kept trying to stop it with her foot. If I have the time I may build a snake cage and if I can find a rattler catch it and put it in there and try to snake train her myself. It was 98 in here about 30 minutes ago so I try to keep her outside in the shade, but she wants to be in here. I have started using the snake fence as a Pepper fence to keep her out of here.

  12. You caught me! I removed my comment as I asked about pallets but then went and looked at older posts and saw the "guts"! I have a friend saving me the crates that motorcycles are delivered in and am tearing them down for free wood. Friends are the best..

  13. frann, anyone that subscribes by email will see deleted messages anyway because they are sent out as soon as they are posted. ;) However, you hadn't removed it by the time I saw it.

Those motorcycle crates should make great building material. Wish I had the same option because I'd be building a lot more stuff.

The construction company that was stripping the white lines down 118 here had 250 something pallets they were giving away in Study Butte a few days ago and they didn't last over night. They seem to be hot items down here whether people use them to burn (like the Grub Shack) or to build with.

  14. I still didnt get an answer to my question, here it goes again. hows yours workin and have you heard of chicago inverters doing well out there?

  15. OGT, mine is working ok, but it sucks more juice freewheeling than a smaller straight up 300 and it won't run the load of the cheap 300s either.. Go figure? At this time my load probably doesn't run over about 150 watts so why use something that will probably use three or 4 times that. Just doesn't make sense to me. Do some research on modified sine wave and pure sine wave. That makes a big difference to because some electrical/electronic devices don't like modified sine wave inverters and won't function with them or won't function very good. I think all of HF inverters are modified sine wave (unless they say different)

  16. Shower is looking good David!!

Maybe Pepper is staying underfoot because of what spooked her the other day?

  18. Today's Pepper update.
I have a load of water coming for the container Dale brought some time today. (275 gallons) Looks like I'm going to need it because Pepper has already dumped out two fresh fills of water in her bowl and took off with the bowl. She did that with her food bowl yesterday so it looks like I'm going to have to find something she can't do that with when I go to Alpine.

She ran off with about a fourth a bag of charcoal yesterday and with the rodents gnawing the sides and bottom out of the bag they got strewn all over the place with her wagging the bag. Looks like I'll be buying more of that when I go to Alpine again to.

I took her to the legion yesterday afternoon late to get ice and had a couple of cool ones while there. I took her leash with me on the trike and its a good thing I did because she kept barking at people coming up and I had to put her on the leash and keep her real close to me. She's also gotten real protective of this place and barks and growls at anyone that comes up. Guess I'm going to have to start chaining her up when I have visitors.

  19. Well, it's good to hear that she's protective of you and the place. She wasn't ever around people much here, except us, so I don't know about the barking and stuff to others. I know the kids in the neighborhood liked her, when she would get out they all had a good time with her. Yall have fun, and stay cool.

  20. Had to go to Study Butte and tied her leash to the passenger's side seat belt where she couldn't get her head to the driver's side door. I guess I didn't tie it good and she was able to pull it loose. As soon as I stopped at the BBMI out the window she went. Fortunately I was able to get the leash and then I really tied it after that. Everything went well after that.

I guess its good to have a guard dog, but not when people come that you want to come. The guy that brought the water came and she walked up to him and let him pet her. Go figure??? She also didn't bark, growl or anything else.

  21. Yep, they are funny critters, what was that you said about females a couple of days ago? lol, running and ducking for cover... Glad it's getting a little better, she'll learn.

  22. Dale, you surely have me mixed up with someone else. I didn't say anything about females. I never do stuff like that. Sounds more like OGT to me.
