Raining again!

Yep... Pictures later of the broken window from HIGH wind.
Rain on the way and a very high wind came out of the south and over powered a real heavy stainless steel crow bar I was using for a prop rod to keep the door open after another high wind some time back broken the latch. It slammed the door so hard that it shattered the glass in it. I walked over to the door expecting to have to force it open because of the high wind I thought was still out of the south, but as I opened it the wind had done a 180 and was out of the north. Yep this wind down here is CRAZY! Anyway it caught the door as I was opening it and slammed it back against the trailer scattering the already shattered glass everywhere.

Shattered
It looked like the rain was headed this way so I  took a brand new tarp and cut it to size and taped it over the hole. Good thing I did because the wind had shifted for a third time and was then blowing out of the west north west and the rain was blowing directly toward the door.

That thing is HEAVY!

It rained for maybe 10 minutes and is now sprinkling off and on.

  2. I think I have some plexy that I can cut and put in it. If not then it will have to be when I go to Alpine the next time. It is still outside now, but that sure wasn't the case 45 minutes ago!

  3. Those windows in the door of the rvs are a lot easier to put in if you have four hands.

  4. Barney, my main concern would be finding a replacement. That one had rounded corners and was frosted. I'd imagine it was also tempered? I'll probably get some lexan because it can be cut without breaking and I can round the corners. Sanding it would cause it to be frosted to.

  5. Just got an email from my neighbor Robert and he said his gauge says 1/10. Not much, but I guess its better than nothing. So far that's 3/4 inch 2/10 inch and now another 1/10. Maybe it will total an inch one of these days. ;)

  6. Glad you didn't get hurt by the breaking glass - that should've been toughened glass (like auto glass) then it wouldn't break in shards!

Every drop of rain counts - yeah?

  7. I'd go with Lexan. My parents have that over all their downstairs windows instead of hurricane shutters. Glad to hear you got some more rain, though!

  9. Dani, fortunately the screen kept the glass out and its all outside. I wore leather gloves when I was pulling all of the shards out so not much chance of getting cut that way.

Abby, I probably will use Lexan, but it will be after the first of next month before I can get it. It scratches pretty easy so the sand storms down here probably won't be too kind to it, but that old glass was frosted anyway.

Frann, there's another 30% chance for today, tonight and tomorrow is a 20% so I guess there's still hope. Sure was a nice cool night here last night for sleeping. Will probably be a good HOT Muggy day today. Humidity is 66% right now.

  10. Sorry about the window, tffn. Those winds were rough. The tarp lines over the top of my trailer broke. Guess I'll leave it off and install a vent cover.

  11. Denese, I never had any luck keeping tarps on top of the dungeon. Either the wind would break the ties holding them on or would shred the tarps. (Some times both) I've seen some pretty nasty wind before coming down here, but nothing close to the winds down here. Talk about unpredictable and strong!
