98 Degrees

Took the trike to get a block of Ice and when I came back the thermometer on the clock said 98.2.  (That was with the window full open.) It cooled down to 98.0 shortly after opening the door. Its down to 96.3 now and holding. Won't be long before I'll be spending most of the day outside in any shade I can find. The first picture is a panorama from the new purposed build site.

Believe it or not it feels comfortable in here.

  4. Hey Unc,

Made it to Kingsland and Dave's this afternoon, again, no problems. We're just going to get to visit as like I said earlier the weather in D/FW is turning to crud tomorrow. We left Del Rio this morning with solid overcast and 55 degrees and ran ahead of the weather they were getting today, so we're hoping to do the same thing into Dallas. Hope you can stay cool, and we'll check in when we get on home.

  5. RN, it was 47 in here this morning when I got up. I keep forgetting to buy a thermometer for outside so don't have a why to know.

Frann, unfortunately pictures aren't worth a thousand words in this case. Its hard to tell that the valley below is very large and a lot lower than the build site. Maybe as much as a 5 story building in places. Probably way more than that in the far corners of the valley. I actually like the view from there much better than the front of the property.

Dale, glad you'll made it to Dave's ok. Hope you'll can beat the snow or what ever you get up there home. Be careful.

  8. Wow! Clicked on that panoramic view you got there. A spotting scope would be cool. Spend hours just gazing! As a matter of fact a tele scope would be nice down there at night. Stars must be beautiful and falling stars awesome. Beautiful view there tffnguy. Is that a little swale running across the property back from left to right? Is that your neighbors in that little white spot on the left about mid photo?

Well on getting ready for summer, maybe you need to set you a removable tarp porch up to hang out on. Just have to be careful on them windy days.

I’m kinda late posting but on the “Rabid Cat Post” I have to ask you tffnguy, are you sure –mc- has not hung out in our neighborhood? He seemed to sum up some of our experiences pretty good. Especially when he made this statement “I also know for a fact it is very easy to overdose, and make one wish for death after having made an ass of oneself.” Whooo, memories!! Yall have a good night.

  9. Scavenger, I took some pictures of the genny really getting after it, but the camera is too good at stopping action so the almost invisible red white and blue circle reverts back to almost a normal wind generator not moving. On the other hand the camera ... lets call it? (and now we have a name the camera contest) has been screwing up again. I almost thought about dropping it in the non basement of the It'll Du today, but know it has to have a day or two left in it. Once again the hammer pulled it out of the coma. Also took some pictures of a cloud that seem to be raining, but the rain was evaporating at high altitude and not making it downstairs. Nice view at sunset! The pictures just didn't turn out.

Tig... Tig... Tig... MC is a lady. The stars really are awesome! but we didn't see one shooting star the whole time Dale and family were here. That is weird because before if you didn't see one or more per night you were either inside, asleep, blind or dead.

  10. I think it got up to 79 degrees here in cali, felt like spring. I bet with a little wind you could get a tan.

  11. OOOPS, excuse me Missy, I sure meant no harm, nor no disrespect. You sure did remind me of past experiences and nailed it rock solid.

  12. Looks like an inside day today. Its pretty chilly and one hell of a north wind. Miss Genny is doing exactly what she is supposed to do and that is making 500 watts of steady power. I did brave the cool and wind to go check the voltage, but couldn't check the battery state because it was generating. I didn't want to have to disconnect it so I guess I'll have to wait for another no wind condition for that. I did re-doctor the two batteries on it yesterday so hopefully between that and a steady jolt from Miss Genny they will come around?

I can feel a slight vibration and hear the noise from it generating all the way over and in here so if any critters or snakes are in the holes out there I get they are really getting ticked off! Probably that and saying there goes the neighborhood and waiting for better weather to pack up and move.

  13. Wow! Don't know if I recall you talking about Miss Genny holding a constant voltage around here. Sounds like she's gonna be good for ya.

Weather here is not so good either. It's cold 41, and slow rain. I'm going to get some CBG parts and try and finish WR's box.

Looks like I'm fixing to be busy with both homes for a short while and not get any pleasure projects done. That's a good thing though. I'll keep you posted on how things are going. Home inspection on Monday. Man it's big partner! Fully furnished too>! TIGGER!!

  14. No, RN, we didn't look for any Mexican food while in Del Rio. We honored a request to have a butterfinger blizzard for Unc, so we had the steakfinger basket before the blizzard.

We did see some awesome starry nights! I think we spotted more satellites, or space debris in orbit, than I have ever seen. I think one night we spotted at least 6, in about 1-2 hrs, just looking up. The coolest had to be the iridium flare we just so happen to be watching. In case you've never heard of it, the iridium satellites are for sat phones, they have pretty good sized mirrors on them for power and such. Well, at certain times, depending on location, you can spot one moving across the sky and the sunset will catch those big ole mirrors and "glint" a reflection, this causing a "flare" in the sky, it's really quite impressive. I had just happen to see a satellite moving across the sky and showed everyone where it was when all of a sudden "bam" the flare occurred. Really, a great time was had by all, can't wait to go back.

  15. OGT, there's plenty of wind to go around here. Too bad I didn't go ahead and move the battery bank over to the genny yesterday like I started to do because I wouldn't need the gas powered charger today for sure. I decided to put that off until today, but that's out now. Maybe tomorrow or the next day and maybe that will give the genny time to whip the other two batteries in to working order. If not then I guess I'll put the solar charger on them and use the pare for a 6 volt system because the way they are they will only charge up to about 7 volts as is. That should be good to provide lighting in the It'll Du instead of using the little solar lights like I did when the guest were here.

Tigger, I think you are about to be a real busy man! Hope all goes well with both houses.

Dale, yes that was cool. Now that I think about it that must have been what I saw in Plano that time I thought I saw a meteor heading straight at me.

  16. It's okay, Tigger, really.

Thank you for liking my satire piece ... I worked hard on it :)

  17. -mc- (I’ve got to find those squiggly things to make this right.) I’ll have to admit you have either had a lot of experience or you did a lot of research because the write-up was super!

tffnguy, did you fall asleep? I posted some photos of the 1st day of spring around your old hometown. You need to check out what you have missed. We got 3 to 6 inches of snow around here. It’s Texas, bet we will need our swimsuits this evening!

The news said we just set a new record. With one more band of snow on the way. He, he. I better get my heater set back up in the garage. I’ve got to finish that CBB.

Anyone want to see they are here.

  18. Was going to post this as another thread, but decided to just post it as a reply instead. Maybe I'll get something done to day to post pictures off and do another thread?

Tigger I'll check your blog shortly if the internet will stay up. Was well after sunrise before I could even get connected and it hasn't been too swift sine then.

    Major Nosedive!

In temp that is. It was 34 degrees in here when I got up about 5:45 this morning. That's around 10 degrees colder than it has been for some time now. I don't have a clue how cold it is outside, but I just stuck a probe thermometer out the door so should know shortly. Also I find that the internet is down again so I'm composing this offline and will either wait for it to come back up or have to wait until the legion opens at noon and post this from there. Despite my telling the guy that runs the network around here how he could solve the outages evidently he didn't take my advise. Hard headed I guess?

Its back to a NO wind condition so as soon as it gets light enough (its 7:33 AM now) I'll go check the battery state on the two maverick batteries I have on it to see if they are getting any better. If the day turns out to be nice enough I plan to start work on a base for a battery box and start moving the batteries and gas charger out to the wind genny so I can at least take advantage of the power from the genny when there is wind.

Just looked at the thermometer I stuck out the door and it reads 27 degrees. Now its time to fire up the big heater again because the temp in here plummeted just from opening the door. I've had to use matches to light the heaters this morning because the lighters have been too cold to light again. Sure will be nice when the sun comes up!!!
