Driving Lesson For Dummies (Toruists)

Twice in the last week I've come near being creamed by jerks that fail to yield to me making a left hand turn from 118 to the ranch road coming up to my place. They ignored that I had the turn signals on well before making the turn and I even tapped the brakes a couple of times before ever getting close to the turn. First time was a mega motorhome towing a car and just now was a new Cadillac Escalade.

Now... I don't know what the laws are in other states, but in Texas a car coming up behind another car that is about to make a left hand turn is supposed to yield to the car making the turn and only proceed after that car has turned.  Is it that these tourists are from states that have different laws or is it that they just have a lot more $$$ than brains? That is a very dangerous practice and IF I hadn't broke off the turn this time I'd have likely gotten a new vehicle out of the deal IF I'd survived. Needless the say the jerk got the bone as they recovered from nearly hitting the bar ditch and then sped on by.

  1. Stupid is stupid in all states. Drive defensively for own safety, and let someone else take them out, which will happen eventially.

  2. Yea, what lou said, and be careful.

  3. lou, getting smacked by the caddy would have caused enough damage and could have been deadly (at least to me), but getting smacked by that motorhome would have no doubt been deadly to me. It was one of the custom greyhound bus sized suckers. Maybe I wouldn't have gotten a new vehicle out of it I guess my family would have?

  5. I hate it when old people in 40 year old vehicles are puttering down the road with an inch of dust on their turn signal and break lights then just out of the blue make a left hand turn!!

    Funny??

  6. Frann, I regularly piss on the taillights headlights and license plates to make sure they are clean. And with a 5.0 liter roller motor in it... it does a lot better then putter as you well know. As for me being old? I'm in my second childhood so I'm NOT OLD!

How was La Kiva tonight? ;)

  7. Never thought of pissing on the taillights while down there at TR....but that's a great idea...AND saves water..(green thing)

We laughed our asses off when reading your comment.

    Thanks

  8. Well Big and Lil' feets, I hadn't thought about the green factor. Probably in this case more like yellow instead of green. ;)

  11. It's just simple rudeness. There are not different laws in other states.

  12. Yep I'd call it very rude. After Frann's post I did get out and check them and I could easily see the turn signals from at least as far away as the people would have been away from me. As far as I'm concerned there was no reason for their actions!

  13. Late comment. Drivers use to driving in Mexico? It is my understanding that in Mexico if you put your left blinker on you are telling them it is safe to pass. In Mexico you pull clear to the right wait until the coast is clear and then you get to make your left hand turn. How dark were the windows in the Escalade?

  14. Judy, if I remember correctly the windows weren't dark tented, but the windshield shouldn't have been tented at all other than the top.
