Final Plea (Pups)

Hello, I am David Secor. Many of you are familiar with the Great Dane problem from David's (Tffnguy's) previous post. These are NOT my dogs, yet I have been doing my best to take care of them since the owner has left the area. Originally, there were 17 dogs, but some have been adopted now, with the owner's permission. In spite of that, there are still many dogs left. In order to properly feed the pack, it requires about $100 in food a week. Unfortunately, neither I, nor my family, can take on that extra burden much longer. I was approached by the Sheriff's department today, and within a few days I need to get rid of these dogs. If anyone wants to adopt one, the time is now. I am contacting the humane society in Alpine, and if they have room, they will be placed there. Otherwise they will have to be put down, which is the worst possible outcome, in my mind. These dogs deserve a good home, and I simply cannot be there 24/7 to provide that, with my other obligations.

Thank You,
David Secor

  1. Anyone who is interested in a dog can meet me at the American Legion at 10:30 AM in the morning, and I can go and show them to you, for the next few days.

  2. I rescued two dogs, one two years ago from a run down trailer park. I can tell anyone thinking about adopting/rescueing dogs from personal experience is very rewarding and you get a companion for life.
At this time I can not afford any more dogs, but there is an organization here in Corpus Christi called PeeWees pet adoption thats a no kill shelter (thats where I got one dog) they evan may pay for transportation or find vulunteers to help out. Email me at captaincrunch8@gmail.com or check out PeeWees online. Im sorry I can't take a dog, but I will help out as best as I can.

  3. I will be there in the morning with my neighbor as she is willing to take one. The pup I got has fattened up some in just a few days and I am enjoying him so much. He is already sitting on command and follows me everywhere.

  4. Cool deal Frann. They are adorable dogs, and I would hate to see them go to a shelter where they could be euthanized, or have to bring them to be euthanized myself.

I have buried more than one dog of my own that has passed from natural causes, and it is a heart-breaking experience.

I am happy that you are enjoying your new pup. I kind of wanted that one, lol. But, I am not in the position right now to take on a dog.

  5. Captaincrunch, I just want to emphasis your point about how rewarding adding a rescued dog to your life really is! We have two rescued dogs as well, and two rescued cats. Give this careful consideration friends, and help David out if you can.

  6. Frann, it turns out that the Alpine Humane Society does not actually have the facilities to store dogs until adoption, and Alpine Animal Control does not accept dogs from outside the city limits. (This is an answer to your post on the previous PUPS thread)

  7. Finally got in contact with a woman from South County who is ACTUALLY willing to help. She has connections to the area shelters, and she will help me place the dogs.

  8. David, I posted a message for the readers of my blog to come to this site to see if they can help. Should people contact you if they still want a puppy?

  9. Thank you Jake for helping out. I am in contact with a rescue group down here. I can be reached at 432-371-2275 for any questions. The rescue group recommends that i do not give out any puppies without a promise to spay/neuter, and get shots. But, i am not so stringent.

  11. I'd hope that anyone who adopts one would do that because it isn't like they are pure bread and no papers go with them for them to be bred and sold. The same problem could easily happen all over again for someone else. There are too many homeless dogs / cats and so on now because of that.

  12. Well said tffnguy . . . well said!

  13. mutts are smarter anyway. when you pure breed, you breed out the intelligence. you get further away from the wolf. I fostered greyhounds, but i still do not believe in pure breeds.

  14. Sad, very sad. Wish I had room for one in my motorhome, but it's simply impossible. Good luck in finding homes for each and every one of them.

  15. The parents look large enough to keep a trooper at bay LOL

  16. Dani, I imagine they could keep about anything at bay they wanted to. ;)

  17. Thanks for the concern Billy Bob. Fortunately, I think I have plenty of help now, and they will all be adopted.

  18. One more adopted today, thanks to the work of Frann, Denese, and David. They have been spreading the word, and I am grateful for their help.

  19. Is Pepper in the group that will be adopted out? I still believe she will be a great dog to someone who can give her the time she needs. I will admit, you can asked David, she is hard headed but would be a great one on one with lot's of TLC. We had her fixed before bringing out to David, so that is one less thing anyone will have to worry about.

  20. Dale, Pepper was the first to be adopted out mainly because she kept coming back here. She is too far away to find her way back here now. She has a good home with good people that will care for her.

  21. Hi David,

I forwarded this blog post to PAWS of Austin, which is the local Great Dane Rescue.

I didn't see your contact details listed above.

Could you please contact PAWS of Austin ASAP at dogs@pawsofaustin.org.

    Thanks,
    Denise Skarecky

  22. PS - We have two Great Danes at home; Rigley & Joe Montana. Joe Montana was rescued from PAWS. PAWS is a fantastic organization in Austin and the BEST place for Danes that need to find their forever families.
