Well Dog Gone

Pepper that is.
Pepper on her last hunt here.
Taking it easy after the hunt.
She looks sad! I wonder if she knows she is leaving?
Wow! I'm surrounded! And there's another BIG guy over there to.

She is now at her new home and all was going well when I left. A lot of sniffing going on, but that was about all. Her and the smaller dog acted as if they were going to be good buds and the big dogs more or less ignored her once they got acquainted. There's a larger Dane not shown in the picture. Pepper also started exploring after that. Looks like she will fit in fine.

As  for me? Well yes I do miss her and was starting to rethink whether I wanted to take her over there or not last night. Had a long talk with her last night, but I don't think she listened so I decided it was best to take her to her new home. Now every time I walk out the door I expect to look around and seeing her trail along behind me. I'm sure I'll reach for a leash that isn't any longer here when I get ready to go somewhere. It'll take some getting used to for sure. I guess the feeling I had driving off was something like that of a parent dropping their preschooler off at kindergarten for the first time. I can go see her if I want to and will get updates on her from time to time to.

As for Abby's request all the toys and stuff she sent went with her over there.

  1. I am sure you will miss her. We have a dog, that when she was little, she was so very stuborn and untrainable. Had my wife in tears many times but after a couple of years, she turned into the good and loving pet. Sometimes, you just don't know how things will work out.

  2. Awww. I'll miss her, too, but this is probably the happiest arrangement for you both.

  3. Yep... Its starting to wear on me pretty good right now, but it was my decision so I'll have to live with it. I figure its better for her though because I stayed so PO'ed at her that I just didn't give her the attention she needed. Of course now if something gets chewed up it will either be me or some critter doing it.

Just hope she gets along with the other dogs!

  4. I believe you did the right thing, T. She's gonna have a blast playing with all the others and you won't have the frustration any more. Plus you don't have to listen to ME asking about her. I had dogs for 17 years and loved em but been dog-free for the last 13 and love that too. Come and go as you please is pretty fine w/o having to worry about anything. Hope all is OK out yonder.

  5. Andy, I'll still post updates every now and then. For now the last one is that she is doing good. Like you say I can come and go as I please without having to worry about whether she's gotten tangled up and can't get to water, whether she's gnawed the bumper off the trailer, whether a Mojave has gotten to her or whether the dungeon has fallen in to one of the ditches she's dug by it.

Just another love hate relationship that I'm out of.

  7. Your loss is Pepper's gain - all animals need positive attention and companionship, and as you say, you spent most of your time PO at her.

She'll be happy with other dogs for companionship - but it's hard to lose a friend, no matter annoying that friend was.

But you've still got us :-)

  8. I still think you would be a good owner tffnguy. When your ready, think about a real small lap dog like a chiuawawa (I can't spell it) or another little nine pound mutt nobody wants. Keep it inside your house, take it to the legion to guard your beer. The latest little dog I rescued is Yorkie, Pomerainen mix named "Mr. Toto". Mr. Toto thinks he's a seven foot tall, 380 pound Dallas Cowboy's linebacker.

  9. RN, might as well bring all of them. ;)

Dani, hard for internet friends to chew stuff up so it is a good thing.

Captain, I'd planned on a small dog to start with, but Pepper needed a home so she came here. I guess this place was just a holding area until she found a real home. However, I think she cured me of ever wanting another dog to raise.

  10. Well you can keep your mind off of being sad by filling in all those holes she dug!!! ;)

  11. The aggravation wasn't worth it. I'm glad she's got friends to play with and not digging a cave under the dungeon.

  12. Frann, I'd need a dump truck for that.

the desert rose, wasn't only around the dungeon, but under this RV to. Its amazing how deep she got some of them since I've tried digging around here and only managed to get from 3 to 4 inches deep before hitting solid plate rock. Since she likes to eat rocks maybe she gnawed it out???

  13. lol @ gnawed holes into rock. Never had a digger (or a rock eater!), but at least you won't have the RV or the Dungeon threatening to fall into Pepper holes anymore.

  14. the desert rose, Another report says she is doing real well and may be teaching her buddies a new trick or two. Hope it isn't on how to get on roofs of cars and how dig holes through solid rock.

  15. The way I think is that if she disrupted your peace and you werent enjoying her, then its for the best. just wasnt a good fit..

  16. Nick, still sad and I still miss her, but it was the best for her and probably for my sanity to.

BTW Frann stopped by for a while this afternoon and we went to the legion for a short going away party. Enjoyed the visit and will look forward to her return.

  17. Oh wow ... I know how you feel ... you described dropping your child off for school the first time.

Nani had her first day of pre-school Monday ... still need to post those pics ... she's never been to babysitters, daycare or anything like that.

Monday, and Tuesday, was hard ... today was terrible.

I'll enjoy Pepper updates every once in a while :)

  18. Pepper is doing great. The one dog of my sister's that seemed to be the worst problem for Pepper has now become her buddy. The kids love her, so she should be doing great.

  19. ~mc~, I guess it could also be like grandkids. I can go see her, but not have to keep her. ;) I plan to take a bag of food over there next month so should be able to see her then. Hope Nani likes or will learn to like being there and it will probably make it easier on you.

Dave, thanks for the update. Maybe you can post any updates you hear of or see every now and then.
