Harvest Moon over 9 Points Mesa

I didn't know last night's moon was anything special other than it really looked cool (Especially the way it was peeping out in a cranny of the south corner of 9 Points Mesa) I decided to take a few pictures and only this morning found out it was the Harvest Moon.

You can read about it Here

  1. It was so gorgeous coming up over the pine trees we have here.

  2. Stunning, David - absolutely stunning! Have never seen the moon like that... Nor the last photo which got the focus on the moon so perfect and the background melted into blurriness :)

    Very cool - thanks :)

  3. Yes Towanda it was beautiful. Too bad the pictures don't do it justice.

Dani, just messing around for lack of anything else to do. I'm heeding Frann's solar warning and will stay inside as much as I can. Or at least out of the sun.

  4. Oh BTW these pictures were taken after dark and I used the night setting on the camera. That lengthens the shutter opening time and its darn near impossible to get sharp focused pictures because of that. The slightest bobble and its blursville.

  5. The moon was so bright due to the exceptionally bright sun it is reflecting off of. Good Picture...there were moonbows in Arizona it was so bright. I would have loved to see a rainbow off of moonlight!

  6. Yeah that would have been nice Frann.

  7. Mark this date on your calander. See if it comes up in the same notch in the mountain next year. How many times a year does it come up in that notch? The dang moon's orbit wobbles, so there may not be a pattern.

  8. First time I've ever noticed it coming up in that exact place before DD. I'm afraid to mark it on the calendar because it might give me an excuse to have a party. ;)

Too bad we wont get to see a full moon at the cook-off this year.

  10. MsB, it came up well to the north of the south cranny of 9 points it seemed to rise out of last night. Its still a nice big moon though.

Yeah I'm sure it would be nice to have the light of a full moon at the cook off. Might cut down on trouble and then it might cause more. (The lunacy factor) ;)

  11. The moon moves north/south on an 18 yr cycle. If you marked where the full moon comes up every 29 1/2 days for 18 years, you would find the north and south extremes, and on the harvest moon 2029 it will be back to 9 Points Mesa. But, if you ask me something important, I won't know.

  12. Heck Lou, I better take a good look now because I will be DEAD by 2029 :-(

  13. Lou, I'm with MsB in figuring I won't ever see it rise in that same spot. I'll be long gone by then. That's some interesting information though.

  14. Great photo. Mine didn't come out well. I should have used the night setting.

  16. Denese, I have pretty good luck using the night setting for the camera IF I use a tripod, the time lapse picture taking and there isn't any wind. I just steaded the camera on a post while I took those pictures and they still didn't come out real good. When I use the tripod I mount the camera on it, set it to take a picture in x amount of seconds and don't have my hands on the camera when it takes the picture. If there is no wind then the pictures turn out good, but if there is just the little shaking from the wind causes the pictures to be a little blurry. Trying to use the night function by holding the camera like taking a normal picture doesn't work at all!!!
